Position: Medical Office Support Staff Position Status: Full Time Program: TCC Health JOB SUMMARY The Medical Office Support Staff provides a variety of administrative support to TCC Health. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Essential functions are duties which are primary to the position. The essential functions of this position are: Models professionalism by example through positive customer service Answers calls, as well as welcomes and assists patients and visitors Schedules and confirms appointments in addition to coordinating transportation for patient Manages inquiries and relays information about appointment and prescription refill requests Ensures valid consents and release of information forms are signed and in patient records Verifies medical insurance information Creates and maintains electronic health records Communicates with pharmacy to provide insurance information or to arrange payment for patient medications Assists patients with medical records requests Maintains protected health information log for all exchanged health information Scans and files clinically relevant documents into EHR Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including HIPAA and CFR 42.2 Ensures all demographic and other system data is accurate within NextGen Provides daily reports and maintains spreadsheets as assigned Communicates necessary information such as medication changes, etc. to appropriate TCC program staff Sorts and disperses office mail to appropriate personnel SECONDARY FUNCTIONS Secondary functions are duties, which are not exclusive of the position and can be performed by other positions; however, secondary duties are to be performed for the efficiency of The Counseling Center, Inc. Assists with the duties of medical office support staff in their absence Will assist with coverage of specimen collection staff as needed Other duties as assigned. COMPETENCIES Knowledge/skill regarding office practices and procedures Skill in operating office machinery with speed and accuracy Demonstrates effective communication and interpersonal skills with public and co-workers Demonstrates appropriate understanding of working with confidential material and situations Ability to understand and assimilate new information quickly MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, INCLUDING TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE High School diploma or equivalent Prior experience in an office setting of a least one (1) year preferred and/or formal secretarial training including computer experience Knowledge about the disease of alcohol addiction preferred Offers of employment are contingent on the successful completion of drug testing and background check.
