Senior Clinical Photographer, Band 6 (22.5 hours a week)
The post holder will lead and participate in delivering a comprehensive Medical Photography, Teledermatology, and Ophthalmic Imaging service at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (GHNHSFT). As a senior member of the Medical Photography Department, the role involves providing high-level photographic skills to support diagnostics, referral, clinical management, and education.
Additional working pattern details: Days to be decided based on clinical need.

Main duties of the job
1. Deliver the highest standard of Clinical Photography to the Trust.
2. Undertake specialist techniques such as teledermatology, ophthalmic imaging, dental, and surgical photography at a confident and high level.
3. Adhere to local policies and standard operating procedures.
4. Deliver high-quality non-clinical corporate and commercial photographic services.
5. Actively promote Trust values and the department's services, assisting in policy development and supporting innovation.
6. Supervise and help to manage a team of Band 5 Qualified Clinical Photographers, Trainee Clinical Photographers, and Band 3 Administration staff.
7. Ensure daily service planning and clinical workload management to meet service demands.
8. Deputize for the Clinical Photography Manager when required.
9. Practice with clinical autonomy to maintain the highest standards of patient care.
10. Lead, motivate, supervise, mentor, and train department staff.
11. Interpret professional policies, verifying and validating completed personal work and work of the wider team.
12. Support service development projects aligned with service objectives and strategy.
13. Manage staff rotas, ensuring adequate coverage during clinics while considering clinical demands and staff preferences.
14. Prioritize and plan tasks to meet competing deadlines for both personal and team workloads.
About us
At Gloucestershire Hospitals, we have a Medical Photography service that operates on Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and Cheltenham General Hospital sites providing and managing clinical recordings for health records, teaching, and publication.
The Medical Photography team consists of six qualified clinical photographers, an administrator/co-ordinator, a clinical photography manager, and a clinical manager.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Aptitude Required:
1. To be accountable for producing images which are both medically and legally valuable, ensuring the photograph is reproduced accurately and with no alteration to the subject.
2. Be responsible for choosing the most appropriate photographic technique to demonstrate the patients condition.
3. To provide, when required, advice and guidance in interpreting legislation and policy guidelines regarding consent, confidentiality, and photography.
4. To maintain administrative and relevant image database systems (Fotoware and MJM) within the department.
5. Maintain a CPD record to keep abreast of current technical developments relating to medical photography.
6. Ensure office, studio, clinic facilities are kept clear and well-ordered and that all equipment is maintained to acceptable and professional standards.
7. Deliver high-quality non-clinical corporate and commercial photographic services.
8. A high level of specialist, technical and practical knowledge and proficiency in all areas of clinical photography.
9. Knowledge in the safe handling of patients and clinical material and/or equipment which may be infectious.
10. Ability to provide clinically relevant scientific/technical advice to service users.
11. Computer literacy to a high level with sound knowledge and experience of: database software and Windows operating systems.
12. Demonstrable ability to effectively participate in Research and Development.
13. Sufficient dexterity and speed to be able to work accurately and quickly.
14. Sound knowledge of anatomy and physiology as well as clinical conditions.
15. Ability to analyse own work and reflect on working practices.
16. Be responsible for imaging equipment used and ensure that the equipment is well maintained, secure, and hygienic for clinical purposes.
17. Maintain and update digital database of photographic clinical image files.
18. Ensure that confidential material is stored correctly and securely at all times.
19. Maintain security of both department sites and equipment.
20. Continually audit quality, performance, and activity.
21. Be able to provide accurate, timely, and well-constructed reports, policies, and procedures when requested.
22. Have knowledge of and uphold legislation and policies as well as ethical issues relating to clinical photography.
23. Identify individual areas of learning that require updating/undertaking.
24. Manage the training and learning of staff.
25. Liaise with other Trust departments to facilitate and share training and learning opportunities.
26. Deliver teaching of specialist clinical photographic techniques.
27. Deliver teaching of photographic techniques; train non-photographic practitioners.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
* Degree in Medical Illustration / Clinical Photography or a Degree in Photography together with a PGC in Medical Illustration, or equivalence.
* Academy for Health Care Science Registration.
Desirable
* Membership of a professional body.
* Introduction to Good Clinical Practice Training.
Experience
Essential
* Significant experience in clinical photography, including teledermatology and ophthalmic imaging.
* Experience in delivering non-clinical corporate and commercial photographic services.
* Experience in teaching and training others in clinical photography techniques.
Desirable
* Experience in supervising and managing a team.
* Experience in research and development within the field of medical photography.
Knowledge
