Background Established in 1913, The Rep has an unparalleled history as a pioneering repertory theatre and the launch-pad for some of the most exciting talent in UK theatre both past and present. Today it is a producing powerhouse with three auditoria - The House, 816 seats; The Studio, 292 seats; The Door, 133 seats - as well as extensive on-site production facilities. Under the Executive leadership of Rachael Thomas the theatre has entered a period of significant renewal, with the vision of being a national and international centre for artistically ambitious popular theatre in all its forms: comedies, dramas, musicals, dance-theatre and family shows. A new Artistic Director, Joe Murphy, will be joining the Rep in early 2025. Revivals, new work and commissions will play in all three theatres. Many of its productions already go on to enjoy future life through commercial transfers and national/international tours. These are exciting times for The Rep and the city of Birmingham. Role Summary The Assistant Producer will work closely with the Producers to deliver Birmingham Rep’s programme of produced and co-produced work, including community work, across our three theatre spaces, The House, The Studio and the Door. It will also involve some work with our Deputy Artistic Director to support Programming in The Door. Under the direction of the Senior Producer you will be the Rep’s main point of contact for received co-productions, liaising with our external producing partners and sharing information with the wider Rep team so that resources can be allocated appropriately, fostering excellent internal and external working relationships with colleagues, producers and promoters. You will also produce community events, working alongside our partners to deliver one-off events in Birmingham’s cultural life and supporting communities to engage with our building. You will be the Producing Lead for the annual Early Years Christmas Show in The Door (alongside any subsequent regional tour), managing the budget, contracting the creative team, liaising with Production, Marketing and Operations to deliver this crucial piece of work for our youngest audiences and their families. In conjunction with the Programming Coordinator this role will lead on scheduling and delivering the Rep’s access provision, coordinating successful delivery of BSL, Captioned, Audio Described and Relaxed performances across our programme. Main Duties and Responsibilities To assist the Producers in the delivery of Rep Productions. To support the Producers in negotiating and agreeing Creative Team and Production staff appointments, leading on all Associate and non-lead deals (i.e Voice/Fights/Puppetry) as standard. To hold relationships with Creative Teams and Key Stakeholders on Rep Productions in order to deputise for the Producer where appropriate. To lead on the delivery of Press Nights, including Main House Productions with Producing Coordinator. To lead on the creation and distribution of Lead Creative contracts (Director, Designer). To support the Producing Coordinator with complex and/or international travel and accommodation requirements. To be the principle point of contact for all received Rep co-productions, and to take the lead on delivering these at the Rep, including liaising with Lead Producers and other receiving venues, sharing information throughout the co-producing process with all relevant Rep departments, and reconciling all Rep costs in association with received co-productions. To be the Producing Lead for the Door Christmas show (and any subsequent regional tour) with duties including appointment of creative team, community tour booking and reporting to funding bodies when required In conjunction with the Programming Coordinator schedule appropriate Access Performances across all received and produced work, and to oversee the delivery of this from practitioners, utilizing the support of the Producing Coordinator/FOH in booking practitioners. To be the organisational lead for community events across the year; helping groups understand their requirements and liaising with Production to establish what can be provided and accommodated. To manage some aspects of programming received work for The Door, including negotiating dates and deal terms, completing deal memos and contract paperwork and producing settlements, as well as agreeing financial targets and marketing spend etc with the Marketing Team. Attending meetings as required by the Producers and Deputy Artistic Director. Work with the Lead Producers, Finance Manager and Technical Coordinator to collate information required for producing settlements for received co-productions and co-productions and that such are done in a timely fashion Proof brochures and other literature as required. To work with the programming coordinator, Producers & Technical Department to ensure all visiting companies into The Door are welcomed to the Rep and made to feel part of the company. To work with the Lead Producer and lead on R&D, workshops including those for talent development and for productions. For all produced, co-produced and received co-productions, compile programme statistics and data for stakeholders, including completing the relevant sections of Arts Council England reports and other stakeholder reports as required. Produce Royalty settlements for co-produced work and creatives for produced work Ensure all outgoings are assigned to TTR where appropriate Prepare budgets for productions when asked. Join meetings as required Any other duties as may reasonably be required. Terms and Conditions Period of work: This is a permanent contract, subject to successful completion of a probationary period of 3 months. Pay : £29,928 per annum Hours: 39 hours per week (full time). Some evening and weekend work will be required. We don't encourage or expect overtime, however in the event that over time is worked, this may be taken as time off in lieu to be agreed in advance with your line manager. Holidays: 20 days per year plus bank holidays rising to 25 days plus bank holidays with continuous service. The holiday year runs from 1 September to 31 August each year. Notice period: 2 months.
