The Commercial Manager is responsible for overseeing budgetary control, negotiating costs to maximise profit margins, and managing contracts to align with business objectives. This role ensures strict adherence to project timelines, fosters strong professional relationships with clients, and guarantees compliance with project specifications while delivering exceptional customer service to secure and retain contracts.
Additionally, the Commercial Manager is tasked with managing, motivating, and training staff to maintain competency and ensure compliance with the Company’s commercial requirements under the contract, as well as adherence to the guidance outlined in the Company’s integrated management system (DMS).

RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Attend weekly, fortnightly, and monthly contract meetings.
* Establish robust project commercial controls and facilities, ensuring appropriate site arrangements, including plant, equipment, and material budgetary requirements aligned with the contract scope.
* Promote the utilisation of the integrated management system (DMS) to ensure consistency, standardisation, and efficiency across all commercially related project controls.
* Develop comprehensive project commercial plans to ensure site teams can deliver projects efficiently and without delays.
* Oversee the procurement and reconciliation of materials, ensuring cost-effectiveness and adherence to Company procedures while preventing delays.
* Ensure strict compliance with the Company’s commercial policies and procedures.
* Attend tender handover meetings and facilitate pre-start meetings with site teams to ensure all commercial aspects are thoroughly understood.
* Implement and monitor commercial plans, including end-of-life forecasts and monthly progress reviews.
* Produce and analyse progress reports, updated costs, and forecasts to support effective decision-making.
* Ensure appropriate commercial engagement and management of subcontractors, as necessary.
* Conduct risk management processes, including reviewing risk registers and ensuring proper controls are in place.
* Review and implement corrective actions identified during monthly Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs).
* Ensure weekly reviews of progress, budget resources, and forward planning are conducted, supported by detailed lookahead programmes.
* Chair and participate in internal and external meetings, ensuring accurate documentation of discussions and actions.
Health, Safety, and Environmental:
* Ensure all site personnel and where required, subcontractors comply with Company procedures and processes.
* Promote a culture of health, safety, and environmental compliance across all projects.
Quality:
Ensure the development, effective communication, and implementation of project risk and opportunity plans to achieve commercial objectives.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
The Commercial Manager reports directly to the Project Manager and Project Director, while also collaborating with the Contracts Manager on a day-to-day basis. The role involves close coordination with all personnel engaged in the management and execution of contracted works.
PROFILE:
The Commercial Manager shall be conversant with both the project contract requirements and all statutory and regulatory requirements pertaining to the core skills and operations of the works being carried out at each stage of the project.
