Constraints: Flexible but will involve a mix of on-site at Compton Verney and remote working. The role will require some weekend and evening working to support the programme. Successful candidate must have access to a car for travel to Compton Verney.
Main Purpose of the Role:
This role will lead the development, co-ordination and implementation of a year-round public programme including stand-alone events and projects that engages with the themes of exhibitions, collections and learning programmes. The Public Programme Manager will work across teams collaborating to produce creative and commercially focused programme reporting to the Director of Creative Programme. The role will include some direct delivery and co-ordination and scheduling of events led by other departments also working with external artists, producers and creative companies. The public programme will reflect our vision, mission and purpose to produce dynamic public facing contemporary programme activity that is thematic and engages a broad audience leading to increased footfall and income, delivering to time and to budget.
Role Responsibilities:
1. To work with the Director of Creative Programme and other colleagues to create unique projects and lead public programmes that deliver against organisational strategy, objectives and financial targets.
2. To work collaboratively with colleagues from across the organisation as relevant to devise and deliver a public programme that draws on creative themes and content and delivers high quality original content, audience and community engagement, increased footfall and income generation.
3. To develop and manage external and internal partnerships which promote collaboration and mutual benefit and generate income.
4. Develop public programme which meets our equalities, diversity and inclusion principles, is creatively ambitious and accessible and helps to meet our commercial objectives. This will include artist residencies, talks, films, performance, out of hours events and family focused content.
5. Scope, co-ordinate, project manage (and in some cases directly deliver) public programme and project budgets effectively to deliver objectives, footfall and income targets.
6. The role will work closely with the Marketing and Communications team to deliver against audience development objectives and to develop effective marketing and sales strategies for projects and events.
7. Work with the Development team with funding applications as needed and managing externally funded projects resulting from successful bids.
8. Develop artist and commissioning briefs, lead thorough contracting processes suitable for artists, curators, designers and consultants, as appropriate.
9. A thorough understanding of how to deliver safe events at scale including Health and Safety, risk assessments, safeguarding as required by the event.
10. A thorough understanding of all elements of event management & production including project and event management plans, resource allocation, staffing, ticketing models, budgeting and developing profit and loss statements for all events, visitor journey.
11. To work with colleagues to ensure appropriate evaluation, documentation and archiving of Compton Verney’s public programme and projects.
12. To provide information to the Executive Team and board as required.
13. Undertaking other duties which may be reasonably requested by the Executive team and which are compatible with the overall scope and authority of the role.
Person Specification
Qualifications & Attainments:
* A degree in a related subject (i.e. event management, art history, visual culture, art, museums studies etc.).
Work Experience:
* Experience of developing and delivering high-quality, impactful events, festivals, projects or installations in a festival, non-profit organisation or museum and gallery.
* Knowledge and strong interest in the visual arts and contemporary culture.
* Ability to lead research on projects to develop high quality, thematically appropriate programme.
* Experience of project management, production and event delivery.
* Demonstrable experience of working collaboratively and in partnership.
* A good understanding of audience development, evaluation and marketing.
* Budget management experience including developing profit and loss statements for events and effective resource allocation.
* Significant and demonstrable experience of running safe events at scale including safeguarding, health and safety, managing risk and risk assessments, managing visitor journey and experience.
* Experience of developing and delivering commercially successful and community focused projects.
* Experience managing and motivating staff.
* Experience of establishing, developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, including artists, fundraisers and key organisations.
