Education Policy Officer - curriculum and qualifications
The RSB is seeking a full-time Education Policy Officer for a permanent role. This is an exciting time to be working in science education policy, with a review of school curricula taking place across the UK. We are offering an opportunity to help shape biology education for all young people.
This role will focus on policy related to curriculum and qualifications. All 4 UK nations are currently undergoing curriculum and qualification review, which RSB seeks to influence using our developed policy positions (www.rsb.org.uk/curriculum) and education policy priorities. The education policy officer will also engage with RSB member organisations and other scientific learned societies to gather evidence and research to inform the Society's policy positions. The policy officer will provide secretariat support to RSB's Curriculum Committee and Education Policy Advisory Group. This role may involve travel to meetings in London and nationally.
The Education Policy Officer will engage with RSB member organisations and other scientific learned societies on matters relating to academic and technical qualifications, curriculum and specification development, and informing joint positions on learning of the sciences in primary and secondary schools.
This role focuses on primary and secondary education and would suit candidates with a broad range of experience, for example; a primary science lead or secondary biology teacher looking to transition out of the classroom; a candidate with experience in science education looking to return to work after a career break; or an individual with science or education policy experience.
The RSB brings together views from across all areas of the life sciences, whether from industry, charities, or the public sector, providing a unified voice to influence policy and affect positive change. The RSB Education Policy Team responds to government consultations and inquiries - helping to inform policy-making and achieve positive outcomes for students, teachers, and society. Proactive projects and research are also undertaken as part of an aim to ensure standards in UK science teaching are high, and that biology curricula are comprehensive, instructive, and inspiring.
The policy officer will work alongside a senior policy officer leading on teaching policy (recruitment, retention, training, and continuous professional development).
