How you'll make a difference
You will make a difference by carrying out routine mechanical duties such as road sweeping and gully emptying and also driving HGV fleet tipper lorries throughout the South Gloucestershire area, to an acceptable standard, using appropriate tools, plant and equipment. 1 x vacancy for an HGV sweeper gully operative.
What you will be doing
* Responsible for HGV driving duties or sweeper gully operative duties, you will ensure safe and effective operation of large plant such as tractors, tractor mounted flails and fleet tippers.
* You will arrive at work by 07:30 and will carry out your daily checks before traveling to site your tasks for the day.
* You will carry out basic safety inspections of tractor and tractor mounted equipment in line with council procedures and practice.
* Disposing of all waste in an effective manner, you will comply with the duty of care requirements and appropriate waste legislation.
* You may be working outside all day in all weathers, working on grass verges, footpaths, and near to traffic and subsequent fumes and noise.
* The work may involve extensive walking so physical fitness is essential, as frequent manual handling, bending and lifting is required in the role.
* During the day you will record activities and report on progress using your skills to carryout operator repairs and maintenance and will pay attention to detail and of course the safe use of machinery and tools.
What we need from you
* You will have a current full driving license with entitlements to category B, K and F.
* We require you to have at least 2 years tractor / HGV driving and grounds maintenance experience with use of heavy plant.
* You must be able to demonstrate your experience and understanding of safely operating heavy plant and will hold appropriate accreditation, and show understanding of following works programmes, including reading maps and completing records.
* You will be able to demonstrate a basic understanding of the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 with a strong knowledge and a practical understanding of using heavy plant in a working environment and the use and care of all equipment used in grounds maintenance.

* Depending on duties, weekend or night works may be involved, for which the appropriate enhancement will be paid.
* Interviews will be held during week 28th April 2025.
