Specialty Doctor in Forensic Psychiatry (Beech Ward)

We are currently seeking a permanent Specialist Doctor for Forensic Psychiatry located on Beech Ward.
The post holder will work 10 programmed activities over 5 days, with 7.5 devoted to direct clinical care and 2.5 to supporting professional activities. A formal job plan will be agreed between the post holder and associate medical director or clinical manager three months after commencing the post and at least annually thereafter.
2 years of experience within psychiatry is an essential criterion for specialty doctor posts. If you do not hold this experience, you may be interviewed and considered for an alternative posting which will differ in grade and pay.

Main Duties of the Job
1. Provide psychiatric care to the Beech unit and undertake the administrative duties associated with patient care.
2. Undertake medicolegal duties as advised by the Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist, including report writing and providing evidence at renewal and tribunal hearings if needed.
3. Record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively and submit this promptly to the Information Department.
4. Participate annually in a job plan review with the line manager, ensuring the post is developed to account for changes in service configuration and delivery.
5. Work with local managers and professional colleagues to ensure the efficient running of services and share with consultant colleagues in the medical contribution to management.

Job Responsibilities

Person Specification
Qualifications
* MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
* MRCPsych or MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* In good standing with GMC with respect to warnings and conditions on practice.
* Section 12/Approved clinician approval.
Knowledge & Clinical Skills, Experience
* A minimum of 4 years' full-time postgraduate training (or equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis), with at least two years within a psychiatry training programme or as fixed-term Specialty Trainee within psychiatry, or equivalent experience and competencies.
* Minimum of 6 months experience within forensic psychiatry.
* Ability to work well in multidisciplinary teams.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Excellent clinical skills using a bio-psychosocial perspective and wide medical knowledge.
* Clinical experience in a range of services within Psychiatry.
* Excellent degree of medical knowledge in relation to Learning Disability and Forensic.
Academic Skills Lifelong Learning
* Ability to demonstrate clinical problem solving in interdisciplinary areas.
* Possession of good organisational skills.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Holds a full valid driving license and access to a car (unless you have a disability as defined by the Disability Discrimination Act 1995).
* Has actively participated in clinical audit.
