This is a Policy Officer - Climate Adaptation role that involves influencing important decisions across the UK on climate change and nature conservation, with a focus on adaptation and advocacy.
This role is a 12-month fixed-term position that offers a competitive salary of £32,022.00 - £34,377.00 per annum, plus benefits such as a pension scheme and life assurance scheme. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a leading nature conservation charity to shape their advocacy on nature's role in tackling the climate crisis.
The role involves developing and securing policy outcomes that help tackle the nature and climate crises in tandem, with a focus on adaptation and advocacy. The successful candidate will have strong policy development and advocacy skills, knowledge about climate change and nature conservation, and strong people skills to drive this work forward internally and externally.
The key aspects of the role include:
* Advocating the charity's climate adaptation objectives effectively to external audiences, developing advocacy plans and building strong working relationships with stakeholders.
* Supporting the development and delivery of projects that further the charity's climate adaptation objectives.
* Working with colleagues to develop effective evidence-based policy positions on climate adaptation.
* Contributing to and coordinating the writing of reports, consultation responses, and briefings to further the charity's climate adaptation objectives.
* Working with colleagues across the charity to develop their internal adaptation capacity.
* Monitoring relevant climate adaptation developments and briefing colleagues.
The essential skills, knowledge, and experience required for the role include:
* Educated to degree level.
* A good knowledge of climate, nature policy, and science in the UK or wider, with relevant academic or professional qualifications.
* Ability to analyse complex issues in a fast-paced environment.
* Ability to negotiate with and influence others.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Proven track record in good project management and strong time management, prioritisation, and organisational skills.
The desirable skills, knowledge, and experience include:
* Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline.
* Understanding of environment/biodiversity policy, in particular climate adaptation.
* Working understanding of UK/EU/global institutions where relevant to climate adaptation.
* Understanding of the role of public facing communications/campaigns in supporting advocacy.
* Experience of operating in a policy and/or advocacy role.
