The Aga Khan Education Services (AKES) is an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network and one of the largest private, not-for-profit, nondenominational educational networks in the developing world.
AKES currently operates over 200 pre-primary, primary, secondary, and lighter-secondary schools and programs in diverse geographic locations in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Uganda and the United Arab Emirates. Schools offer their respective country’s national curricula; some schools in East Africa and Bangladesh also offer international curricula (IB and British). AKES employs over 3,000 teachers and educates over 85,000 students.

Position Overview:
AKES is currently seeking to recruit a Chief Executive Officer for AKES, Uganda which operates three schools in Kampala. The CEO will be responsible for leading its day-to-day operations and the successful delivery of the organisation’s strategic direction for Uganda.
The strategic goal is to reposition the current schools into two high-performing, affordable quality national and international school campuses with upgraded facilities, enriched curriculum, and a focus on continuous development to ensure a values-based 21st Century relevant education for students. This will involve school construction, relocation, and major facilities retrofitting.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Policy and Strategy: Champion and provide leadership in rolling out the strategy set by the AKES Head Office (HO) and Board of Directors of AKES, Uganda.
2. Management: Promote an organizational culture and ethos that reflects the values of AKES and AKDN and fosters effective performance, high motivation, and positive outcomes for the students and the adults connected with the Aga Khan Schools.
3. HR Management: Facilitate the process of attracting and retaining the highest quality staff, fostering a culture of continued learning and development and ensuring that sound policies and practices are upheld.
4. Financial Management: Direct the development and management of the annual budget in line with the agreed strategic plans and objectives.
5. Community Relationships: Foster strong stakeholder relationships in addition to leveraging and optimizing opportunities and synergies.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
• Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or Natural Science; MBA is an added advantage.
• At least 7-10 years’ hands-on experience dealing with corporate sales strategies.
• Understanding of clients such as government, INGOs, and donors who buy seeds from the seed company.
• Experience in forecasting, budget preparation, budget control, order booking, and payment handling.
• Strong negotiation, issue handling, and effective communication skills.
• Experience in managing process documentation and reporting.
