Perform quality control and calibration measurements, using specialised instrumentation, on radiotherapy treatment machines and imaging equipment in accordance with local and national protocols and codes of practice. To participate in the commissioning of radiotherapy equipment including, where appropriate, designing procedures for, and overseeing the commissioning of, specific aspects of equipment. Producing individual treatment plans appropriate to the course of treatment prescribed by medical staff, both in routine and complex situations. Carrying out verification procedures on plans produced by others to confirm the accuracy and appropriateness of the proposed treatment. Support and undertake research and development projects within Radiotherapy Physics, and where appropriate, other Sections as agreed with the Head of Section/Department. To develop new techniques and protocols which improve the accuracy, efficiency and/or efficacy of radiotherapy treatment. To assist in the training of other medical physics staff in specific techniques and procedures. To uphold the scientific standards of the department and ensure that conduct is appropriate to maintain HCPC registration as a clinical scientist and maintain CPD. To ensure mandatory and statutory training is kept up to date. Keep abreast of the latest scientific and technical developments and their applications within radiotherapy physics and associated fields and attend suitable seminars and courses as part of training and personal development and to further the work of the department. Ensure that all activities are carried out within the Sections quality framework and conform to Statutory Regulations, Approved Codes of Practice and local safety rules. Carry out all work in accordance with the Quality System protocols. Work hours necessary for the proper and efficient performance of the work. In practice, the appointee will occasionally be required to perform duties outside the normal working hours of the Department. To co-operate in a professional manner with other scientific, medical and professional staff. Perform other appropriate duties consistent with the post holders grade and capabilities which may be required from time to time by the Head of Section or Head of Medical Physics.
