Following substantial strategic investment from the University of Southampton into new research capacity, we are seeking to make up to two appointments at the Associate Professor or Professor level. The appointment would start on 1 September 2025 or as soon as possible afterwards, and it is intended to grow our research portfolio and enhance our curriculum of research-led education to benefit from recent developments in Mathematical Sciences.
This appointment is a part of our focussed strategic investment into the computational and theoretical aspects of mathematical modelling and data science. It is intended to enhance and intersect with our diverse research interests, which are represented by world leading research groups in Applied Mathematics and Mathematical Physics (Gravity, String Theory, Mathematical Modelling), Statistics, Operational Research, and Pure Mathematics. The remit of this position is intentionally broad, and includes (among others things -- see link for more details) quantum information and applications of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence to theoretical physics and string theory.
Strong applicants should demonstrate:
* a doctorate and postdoctoral experience in a relevant discipline;
* evidence of research leadership and the ability to obtain peer-reviewed funding;
* evidence of distinction in research through high-quality peer-reviewed publications;
* ability for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching;
* commitment to improving equality, diversity, and inclusion through new initiatives in research and education.
We offer a generous start up package and help and financial support with the relocation.
