Main duties of the job
We are looking for a highly motivated, compassionate individual who is a qualified associate practitioner / assistant practitioner in Mammography. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary. The candidate will need experience of working with patients as part of the NHS breast screening programme.
The role includes carrying out mammography under the supervision of a state registered Radiographer as part of the NHS breast screening programme and symptomatic breast imaging service.
Applicant will be required to complete Mammography Associate Apprenticeship
This role has a "genuine occupational qualification" as an exception to the Equality Act 2010 therefore only applications from females will be considered.

About us
The breast imaging team at Oxford includes four Consultant Radiologists, Consultant Radiographers, Advanced Practitioners, Radiographers, Assistant Practitioners/Mammography Associates and Radiology Assistants.
The breast screening service provides a screening service to the Oxfordshire community with 2 mobile screening vans and 2 static screening sites. In addition, the service supports a symptomatic breast service at the Horton General Hospital at Banbury and the Churchill Hospital in Oxford.
Mammography Associates will work as an Assistant Practitioner within the breast imaging workforce undertaking routine 2 view mammography (x- ray images of breasts) as part of the NHS breast screening programme and on individuals with symptoms of breast disease.

Job responsibilities
Key Duties
1. To work within the Scope of Practice for Mammography Associates/Assistant Practitioners in Breast Imaging and undertake screening and symptomatic mammograms in the static and mobile clinics.
2. To assist in interventional procedures (core biopsies, vacuum assisted core biopsies and localisations) as required, including preparation of procedure trolley and support of patient undergoing procedure.
3. Complete QA testing on a daily, weekly and monthly basis at the static and mobile units.
4. To process and prepare images and paperwork for clinical reporting.
5. To ensure safe use of imaging and other equipment used in the department.
6. To manipulate heavy machinery and be required to manoeuvre clients/patients who are unable to move.
7. To be hoist trained and be confident when utilizing this equipment. The post holder will be required to manoeuvre wheelchairs and have a high level of dexterity when working in the various clinics.
8. To explain to clients and patients the preparatory requirements regarding undressing/dressing and assisting them when necessary.
9. To show compassion, sensitivity and understand the anxiety and fear prior to the clients/patients procedure.
10. To exercise discretion and maintain patient confidentiality, dignity and privacy at all times.
11. To demonstrate good communication skills when dealing with clients, patients, relatives and members of the Multidisciplinary Team, utilising sensitivity, empathy and the ability to manage conflict.
12. To undertake mandatory training as required by the Trust, to develop and increase skills, to improve the service to the public.
13. To input client data onto CRIS.
14. To be aware of and comply with the relevant Ionising Radiation Protection Regulations and Local Rules.
15. To maintain a professional appearance and attitude at all times, working together and supporting other members of the team in a polite and helpful manner.
16. To contribute to the maintenance of accurate data when entering information onto the departmental computer system.
17. Communicate equipment faults.
18. Participating in all relevant in-house training.
19. Carrying out clerical duties when required including film filing.
20. Contributing to the departments Quality Assurance and Audit Programme.
21. In addition to the key areas listed, staff are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required.
Person Specification

22. Level 2 maths and English (equivalent to GSCE grades A-C)
23. Experience working in a health/caring environment
24. Assistant Practitioner or Mammography Associate experience
25. Knowledge of the NHS Breast Screening Programme demonstrated
26. Level 4 mammography associate qualification or equivalent mammography assistant practitioner qualification
27. Evidence of continued learning
Desirable
28. Experience in NHSBSP screening department
29. Involvement in the training and development of junior staff
