About the Opportunity
Nuclear Power Programmes are delivering client critical works to some of our major UK and European Projects. Our embedded teams are delivering support to Hinkley Point C (New build power station in the South West), Sizewell C (located in the South East), helping develop technologies in SMR (Small modular Reactor) capability and working towards building Poland's first Nuclear Power station.
Working in both client facing and internal roles we are delivering major programme and project management capabilities throughout the project lifecycle. We are driving to deliver safe, high quality and to time solutions by thinking innovatively and working collaboratively.
Jacobs are seeking a Piping Calculations Engineer who will be an integral member of team, the assignment will encompass a pivotal contribution to the Hinkley Point C project’s design phase culmination. Within the piping sector, you will be entrusted with the meticulous design oversight of an expansive piping network, spanning over 100 kilometers, which forms the backbone of the Nuclear Island. Key responsibilities will be:
1. Ensure the integrity of the pipe network design and its supporting structures by performing detailed piping calculations
2. Assessing HVAC and electrical supports for various load scenarios, including dead weight, thermal expansion, and seismic activity
3. Experience of finite element analysis software
4. Knowledge of Python programming is advantageous for developing specialized tools
Here's What You'll Need:
5. Degree in Mechanical Engineering
6. The role could be a good starting point for someone in the early stages of their career
7. In-depth understanding of mechanical concepts, including modal and static analysis
8. Proficiency in mechanical simulations, particularly using finite element methods
9. Programming proficiency, especially in Python, for the development of computational tools
10. Experience with CAD software for design and modeling
11. Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory compliance related to mechanical engineering
