The Anaesthetic Department at William Harvey Hospital is looking to recruit a dynamic and conscientious individual to join our team of dedicated clinicians for a year.
William Harvey Hospital is a large district general hospital providing care for the diverse population across East Kent. The hospital provides surgical services for the regional head and neck cancer service, colorectal cancer and other specialties, including gynae, ENT, trauma surgery, breast, paediatrics and ophthalmology. There is also a 24-hour pPCI cardiology service. We are a leading level 2 trauma unit and have a busy obstetric unit with 4000 deliveries a year. Vascular and urology services are based at Canterbury.
We will work with you to shape the ideal job plan upon successful appointment, and review it with you after three months and then annually - – so you can keep the perfect fit. We will also provide the essential resources to support you in your duties, including administrative support. It will include pre, per and post-operative management of surgical patients, assisting with care of the patients on the ICU, and provision of assistance with resuscitation calls and acute pain queries. Travel to other sites within the Trust will have to be anticipated to allow for full teaching experience.
The post holder may be involved in teaching other doctors and medical students, nurses and other paramedical staff in the team in specialty and special interest On Call Arrangements:
The on-call commitments should approximate to a 1 in 8 and will be covering paediatric, trauma and emergencies. The post is for 48 hours per week. The duties and responsibilities in this job description may need further discussion in the future to ensure that they continue to meet the needs of the service, future service developments and the post holder.
Anaesthetic Specialty Trainees and Trust grade (CT2 level) and cover CEPOD, labour ward (daytime) and support ICU, paediatric and trauma emergencies with rotation procedures, both on elective lists and as emergencies.
