Directed Energy:
Our Directed Energy capabilities cover both the fundamental knowledge behind the Science of this emerging technology, and the integration of our closely aligned Engineering Teams and Facilities.
Our teams are critical to providing Directed Energy Weapons (DEW) and associated technologies that will provide the military with tools that enhance defensive and offensive capabilities, and you will be joining QinetiQ at a time when there is global interest and budgets to provide viable capability.
Our Laser and Radio Frequency DEW activities require a broad range of engineering skills, which means you will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team on a range of customer projects, working alongside Laser and RF Subject Matter Experts to design and develop new novel solutions, and help to transition existing systems into production. Through this work you will have the opportunity to develop a deep understanding of the principles of both electrical and mechanical disciplines, and skills in design, testing, analysis, reporting, verification, safety assessment, quality assurance, and management of projects.
This work has many aspects that you will find to be highly rewarding from a personal perspective, and you will be helping to develop technology that will save lives and protect the UK’s sovereign capabilities.

The academic elements of the apprenticeship are delivered on a block release basis. Travel and Susbsistance will be reimbursed in line with QinetiQ's expenses policy.
Academic requirements:
You must have obtained or be predicted:
* 3 x A Levels at grades AAA (144 UCAS points or above) to include Mathematics and a Physical Science
Or
* BTEC Diploma grade D*D*, with an A grade A level Mathematic
Or
* BTEC Extended Diploma grade DDD, including two Mathematics units
You must also have obtained:
* GCSE A*-C, 4 - 9 in Maths & English Language
Additional requirements:
* Passionate about Engineering with extracurricular activities that reflect this.
* Strong written ability
* Team / leadership experience (including positions held in hobbies &/or academic projects)
