A position of Capital Management Accountant has arisen within the Financial Control pillar of UKRI Corporate Finance. The role is based at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, near Didcot, Oxfordshire although occasional travel to other UKRI sites will be required. The Financial Control pillar within UKRI is principally responsible for the production of the Annual Report and Accounts and the maintenance of the General Ledger and monthly transactions.The position will be solely focussed on the management of the fixed assets further information can be found at https://stfc.ukri.org/about-us/how-we-are-governed/financial-reporting/
The role requires a proactive individual who is highly organised with strong analytical and communication skills. Prior knowledge of Oracle is desirable.
Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Head of Capital Management, duties will include:
* Monthly reconciliation between Oracle General Ledger and Fixed Asset modules on a project by project basis
* Ensure Fixed Asset capitalisation and disposals are in accordance with UKRI policies and International Financial Reporting Standards
* Provision of educational workshops and materials on Fixed Assets and Capital Project set-ups to Capital Project Managers and Departmental staff at all UKRI sites
* Maintenance of the 150+ Capital Projects Ledger involving advising on project structures to facilitate asset creation in the Fixed Asset Register, cleansing project data of non-capital items and the timely creation of Construction in Progress Assets
* Manage rolling cycles of Fixed Asset verification, validation and impairment review
* Maintain an effective collaborative working relationship with the shared service centre UK SBS (as Fixed Asset transaction processing is outsourced)
* Undertake a monthly quality review of the Fixed Asset reconciliations undertaken by the UK SBS

You will have extensive interaction with staff in both Finance and Project Management and will need to establish strong working relationships with Project Managers and Management Accountants.
Person Specification:
Essential
* Qualified or part-qualified accountant with relevant experience
* Extensive experience in a financial accounting environment substantiated by a proven track record
* Good working knowledge of the International Reporting Standards relating to Non-Current Assets tangible and intangible
* Strong analytical skills and good attention to detail
* Good working knowledge of data mining within MS Excel
* Good working knowledge of MS Word and PowerPoint
* Experience in the creation and management of Fixed Assets and large Capital Projects
* Experience of complex GL account reconciliations
* Ability and experience of presenting and explaining financial information to non-financial staff.
* Flexible and a self-motivated individual
Occasional travel to other UKRI sites will be required.
Desirable
Experience of Oracle Project Accounting, General Ledger, and Fixed Assets Modules.
