Job Title: School Kitchen Porter

Job Summary: The School Kitchen Porter is an essential part of the catering team, responsible for maintaining cleanliness and order in the kitchen to ensure efficient operations. This role supports the chefs and kitchen staff by handling cleaning, maintenance, and basic food preparation tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintaining Cleanliness:
Operate dishwashing equipment to clean and sanitise dishes, cutlery, pots, pans, and kitchen utensils.
Ensure all kitchen surfaces, countertops, and floors are clean and sanitised.
Dispose of kitchen waste, including food scraps and trash, in a safe and hygienic manner.
Supporting Kitchen Operations:
Assist chefs and kitchen staff with basic food preparation tasks as needed.
Retrieve and stock kitchen supplies, ensuring they are easily accessible.
Monitor and manage inventory of cleaning supplies and kitchen equipment.
Health and Safety Compliance:
Adhere to safety and hygiene standards, including proper handling of cleaning chemicals and waste disposal.
Follow health and safety guidelines, including the correct use of personal protective equipment.
Report any maintenance issues or safety hazards to the Catering Manager or Head Chef.
Team Collaboration:
Communicate effectively with kitchen staff to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow.
Assist in the wash-up area during busy service times.
Be flexible in assisting with various kitchen tasks as needed.
Sustainability Initiatives:
Support efforts to reduce waste and improve environmental practices within the kitchen.
Promote and implement sustainability initiatives as directed by the school.
Qualifications:
Basic understanding of health and safety in kitchens, including how to avoid cross-contamination and proper handling of hazardous substances.
Experience with basic food preparation is a plus.
Ability to work in a physically demanding role, potentially involving long hours.
Willingness to complete a basic hygiene certificate within the first six months of employment.
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
