The post holder will be mentored by the Senior Nurse Practitioners.
There will be an expectation to develop and achieve the skills and competencies for the role of Nurse Practitioner under the direct mentorship of the Senior Nurse Practitioners.
To provide professional and advanced clinical nursing support and advice to the junior doctors, nursing staff and the multidisciplinary team within LUHFT
To provide senior nursing support and advice to all clinical areas within the Trust, and to undertake advanced patient assessment and clinical interventions, which includes Nurse Prescribing.
To participate in and co-ordinate the Trust’s Emergency Response Teams Cardiac Arrests and other clinical emergencies.
The post holder will not be expected to perform operational or Duty management responsibilities.
The Post holder will be an experienced practitioner, demonstrating a high level of practice, knowledge and autonomy, participating in direct patient care.
Using a high level of interpersonal skills and knowledge, filter all calls to medical staff. Refer clinical problems as required or as per guidelines. Triage and prioritise all calls to junior doctors using a high level of interpretation and judgement.
Provide clinical advice and support to PRHO/SHO on request.
To provide senior clinical advice to all areas within the Trust.
Key Member of the “H@N” Team to ensure optimum patient care.
Act as a clinical expert, using highly developed specialist knowledge in the provision of support and advice to ward & junior medical staff.
To communicate effectively with senior medical staff i.e. (Anaesthetist, Registrar, ITU SPR, Consultant) ensuring optimum patient care is maintained in all clinical areas by having the ability to provide, receive and interpret highly complex and sensitive

Managing Self As Part Of Team / General
To liaise with ward managers and matrons regarding the clinical management of their areas at the end of each shift.
Contribute in the planning of shift rotas for fifteen Senior Nurse Practitioners
Attend and actively participate in team meetings.
Request and document own holidays and sickness etc in a timely manner and with recognition of service demands.
Ensure full holiday entitlement taken within the calendar year.
Maintain registration and provide line manager with registration details when renewed.
Provide cover for colleagues unexpected sickness/absence
To be responsible for individual professional development and contribute to improvements of patient care through development of standards and participate in benchmarking research and audit.
Participate in the education and development of the multidisciplinary team and facilitate student nurse placements liaising with the university.
Staff Management
Identify staff not performing to the expected clinical standard and advise their manager or matron.
Support member of staff and manager/matron to ensure acceptable standards attained.
Advise Duty Manager of any concerns re staff performance.
Complaints
Act as 1st line of clinical complaints procedure.
Advise and support staff in dealing with clinical complaints.
Document complaint as per Trust protocol.
Communicate with appropriate person your involvement e.g. wards sister, matron or duty manager.
