The Dental Nurse (DN) will work within the nursing team, under the direction of the OPD managers and leadership team, supporting the nurse in-charge.
The DN will be expected to manage the Dental department and function as a DN providing direct patient care in accordance with local and national protocols, standards, and competences.
To support and facilitate assessments of unregistered staff where appropriate and to mentor staff as required.
Main duties of the job
* Ensure patient records are maintained accurately in line with local and national standards, digital strategy, Information Governance, and General Data Protection Regulation.
* Carry out all administrative and other duties that are required, working effectively to provide safe, evidence-based, and cost-effective care.
* Demonstrate a sound knowledge of the principles of infection control, including monthly hand hygiene audits, adhering to the highest standards when performing aseptic technique and complying with Trust Infection Control Policies at all times.
* Ensure safe, appropriate, and timely monitoring, recovery, and discharge from the department following treatment and interventional procedures.
* Participate in the provision of information to patients and their carers regarding disease, treatments, health advice, screening, and services available for their needs.

Job responsibilities

* Lead in the Dental department in conjunction with the Nurse-in-charge.
* Support the senior team to achieve a high standard of evidence-based care, procedures, and treatment specific to the clinical need, working within the Trust competency framework appropriate to role and scope of practice, including the use of medical devices.
* Ensure compliance with all Trust and department policies and guidelines, e.g., consent, chaperoning, WHO checklist, COSHH, Information Governance.
* Work closely with the multi-disciplinary team ensuring excellent and effective communication is maintained.
* Respond effectively to patient and service developments, escalating any issues to the Nurse-in-Charge in a timely and appropriate manner.
* Attend Outpatient departmental meetings and contribute to educational half-days, sharing learning and keeping up-to-date with the wider nursing agenda and Trust initiatives.
* Contribute to achieving individual team and department objectives and quality targets to maintain an excellent patient experience and service delivery.
* Undertake learning to ensure you are up-to-date with mandatory training and appraisals.

Person Specification
QUALIFICATIONS
* UK Registration as a dental nurse.
* Orthodontic trained.
EXPERIENCE
* Recent experience in NHS.
* Experience within Outpatients.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
* Ability to work autonomously proactively and as part of a team. Effective IT skills.
* Effective communication.
