Cook - Russets
Salary: Band: 5, £25,652 - £27,363 pa, pro rata (£15,599 - £16,639 for 22.5 hours) plus a 7.5% shift allowance.
An average of 22.5 hours per week. Hours will be worked over a 2-week rota which may include weekends and bank holidays.
Your new role
As Cook, you will be planning and producing a varied and exciting menu which is nutritionally based, including special dietary requirements, whilst managing a set budget. You will be responsible for preparing food daily with the help of a kitchen assistant and overseeing Health and Safety in the kitchen, including the induction of any new staff. Following the stock ordering process, you will liaise with various suppliers, check deliveries, and arrange appropriate storage. You will report any concerns to the senior team while ensuring all kitchen records are kept up to date and policies and procedures are followed. Additionally, you will be required to organize catering for special events.
What you'll need to succeed
You will need an advanced qualification in catering, for example, City and Guilds 701/702, and a basic food hygiene certificate (or be working towards a suitable qualification). You will have experience ordering stock and the ability to adhere to a set budget while cooking for a large number of people. A good knowledge of food and nutrition requirements for our specific service, including a range of special dietary needs, is essential. You should have an understanding of food safety, including IDDSI and food intolerances or allergies (IDDSI training will be provided). With good interpersonal and communication skills, you will be flexible to adapt to changing workloads and requirements of the unit, possess the ability to organize and lead kitchen staff, and understand the policy regarding safeguarding vulnerable people.
