Position: Controls Engineer (Panel Building & Automation)\n\nLocation: Nottingham\n\nSalary: Circa £80k DOE + Company Vehicle\n\nOur partner, an Electrical Engineering Contractor with over 25 years of industry expertise, is seeking a Controls Engineer with a strong background in panel building, wiring, and assembly, alongside PLC programming and electrical design. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys hands on panel work while contributing to automation and control system development.\n\nAs a Controls Engineer, your duties will involve building, wiring, and testing electrical control panels and troubleshooting panel faults. You will modify or create PLC programs.
Designing schematics in AutoCAD and performing on site commissioning.\n\nWorking closely with electricians and engineers, you will ensure seamless installation and operation of automation systems. Regular interaction with clients and site teams will be required to meet project specifications and deadlines.\n\nResponsibilities:\n\nPanel Building & Electrical Assembly (60%)\n\nAssemble, wire, and test electrical control panels and motor control centres (MCCs).\n\t\t\nWork with SIL safety circuits, interlocks, and control system components.\n\t\t\nPerform fault-finding and rectification on electrical panels.\n\t\t\nEnsure compliance with BS7671 (18th Edition) and other safety standards.\n\nProgramming & Design (40%)\n\nModify or create PLC programs to meet project requirements.\n\t\t\nSet up HMI and SCADA systems, including Red Lion and Siemens interfaces.\n\t\t\nConfigure VSDs, Siemens Simocode devices, and Inter-PLC communications.\n\t\t\nDevelop AutoCAD schematics and panel layouts.\n\t\t\nPerform site commissioning, from I/O checks to Site Acceptance Tests (SATs).\n\nRequired Qualifications & Experience:\n\nProven panel-building experience is essential.\n\t\nHNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or equivalent hands-on experience.\n\t\nC&G 2382-18 (BS7671 18th Edition) certification.\n\t\n2391 Electrical Inspection & Testing qualification (preferred).\n\t\nFamiliarity with AutoCAD, Eplan, or Trimble for electrical schematics.\n\t\nHands-on electrical engineering experience (JIB-approved or technical grade preferred).\n\t\nKnowledge of Allen Bradley RS Logix 500/Studio 5000, Mitsubishi GXWorks, Omron CX, and Crimson 3 for Red Lion HMIs.\n\nPackage:\n\nCirca £80k DOE.\n\t\nCompany vehicle + business miles fuel card.\n\t\nLaptop & phone provided.\n\t\nPension scheme.\n\t\n24 days of holiday + 8 statutory days.\n\t\nAll necessary PPE provided
