We are looking for an inspiring teacher to share their love of languages and create a stimulating learning environment that challenges all pupils. You will teach KS2 and KS3 in French and therefore must have experience of teaching a range of ages and abilities. To be successful, you will be a qualified teacher with a degree in Languages.
Learning a language is an enriching experience both culturally and intellectually. We aim to spark a passion for learning languages in our children and encourage inquisitiveness and a deep interest in other cultures. The role would involve mainly teaching French, but the ability to also teach Spanish could be an advantage.
Languages are taught across all Key Stages. French is introduced during the nursery years and continues throughout the children’s time at Westbourne. Spanish has been an exciting, new addition to the curriculum since September 2019. The lessons cater not only for beginners but also for those who have studied the language before or native speakers who join us from other countries.
We offer a fantastic and engaging programme. In addition to organising enriching activities as part of the school day, our pupils visit various language festivals and workshops where they learn through a variety of mediums, including song, dance, art and drama. Immersion courses and visits from children of international schools allow the children to develop their language skills further.
You will be expected to contribute to the Games programme at the school, as well as matches and activities on Saturdays.
This is a full-time role for a period of up to one year as maternity cover. Part-time applications may be considered.
In return, we can offer:
* Competitive salary
* Royal London Pension Scheme
* Discretionary school fee discount
* Use of the school’s facilities – swimming pool and sports facilities, subsidised staff yoga class
* Employee assistance programme
* Strong, supportive staff team
* Cycle-to-work scheme
* On-site parking

The school enjoys outstanding facilities. There are rooms for Art, Ceramics, ICT, Design Technology and Food Technology and a separate Science block and Music School, as well as a modern, 300-seat theatre/assembly hall. The School also has a large (30-acre) lake on the north boundary for kayaking.
Academic standards are high, with consistently outstanding Common Entrance results together with an excellent scholarship record, totalling 140 over the last five years.
Westbourne House uses the High-Performance Learning philosophy to guide all pupils in becoming good learners. The school believes that all pupils have the potential to perform at the highest level regardless of their current performance level. The Advanced Cognitive Performance Characteristics (ACPs) and Values, Attitudes and Attributes (VAAs) of HPL are the “thinking” and “behaviour” characteristics, and these are delivered specifically and systematically throughout the curriculum.
There are around 100 boarders, many of whom board for two or three nights in one of seven houses on the school grounds. The school offers full-time boarding allowing the children to further enjoy the beautiful facilities and grounds the school has to offer.
