Come and join us An exciting vacancy has arisen within the R&D function at our Preston site for a Design Engineer to join the team. The main purpose of this role is to design the company’s new products to agreed time/cost and customer specification ensuring that solutions are suitable for product performance and meet the requirements of relevant legislation and standards. Come and join us As a Design Engineer, you will: Assist in the generation and translation of the Detailed Product Request (DPR) for new products into an agreed Technical Response and Product Design Approval which satisfies the product design requirements of all other departments within the business. Ensure robust engineering design solutions are achieved. Use of FEA, DFMEA and design analysis techniques to comply with performance, safety, installation, service, cost, quality and manufacturing requirements for the product. Ensure product and component detail specifications / design documentation are generated and structured via CAD (as appropriate) systems to approved company procedures. Ensure products are designed to the latest electrical, gas, and water regulations and standards Conform to departmental ISO 9001 procedures and CAD best practices manuals and ensure housekeeping, safety and environmental standards are maintained. Plan and prioritise own workload to achieve product introductions within agreed timescales, meeting all the design requirements of the agreed departmental product plans. Work within a multi-disciplined team environment providing guidance and assistance on engineering design issues. Carrying out formal and informal company design reviews and contributing fully towards expanding the benefits of team working and achievement of the project team’s objectives. Carry out Product Development activities upon request to enable departmental priorities to be met. Knowledge, skills and experience required: Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a similar role Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential Highly proficient solid modelling Computer Aided Designer user with experience of FEA and DFMEA techniques. We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, capable of working both individually and within a team, organised, and someone who has an excellent eye for detail. CAD essential - ideally Solidworks but training can be provided Experience in PLM or Document control - ideally Teamcenter but training can be provided What we offer: Our package is made up of basic salary plus a variable incentive.
