Let us tell you a bit about the opportunity
The Strategic Risk Lead provides second-line oversight of risks within the Group’s Strategic Risk category, including Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG), Reputation, and Strategy Execution. The role focuses on developing ESG risk capabilities, ensuring compliance with stakeholder expectations, and fostering strong relationships across Risk, the wider business, and FirstRand.

What will your day look like?
Key responsibilities include leading ESG risk reporting, providing senior management with insights on risk management effectiveness, and ensuring regulatory-aligned disclosures. The role also oversees risk assessments, appetite setting, and other key processes within the Group Risk Management Framework.
1. External Reporting: Lead the Group’s climate-related disclosures and contribute to key ESG reports, ensuring alignment with evolving standards.
2. Internal Reporting: Develop meaningful ESG risk reports and MI, integrating data sources for a comprehensive risk view.
3. Emissions Management: Oversee the development of financed emissions calculations, ensuring industry-aligned methodologies and robust controls.
4. Scenario Analysis: Coordinate climate-related scenario analysis and assess capital requirements for climate risk within the ICAAP.
5. Framework Development: Own and embed the ESG Risk Framework, integrating ESG, Reputation, and Strategy Execution risks into risk management.
6. Risk Oversight & Advisory: Provide oversight, challenge, and advisory support for strategic risks, partnering with first-line risk owners to ensure high-quality outcomes.
