Machine Shop Supervisor
Location: Cheddar, BS27 3RP
Salary: £38,000.00-£45,000.00 per annum, with the potential to achieve £60,000 with Overtime & Call out
Our client is a leading electromechanical services provider for rotating equipment, specialising in the repair and sourcing of pumps, motors, gearboxes, generators, and power transmission components. This is your chance to work for an industry-leading service provider.
The Role
Due to a growing demand for their machining capability, they require a machine shop supervisor. The job role will require a time-served engineer with a proven record of manual/conventional turning, milling, and general machining, along with proven mechanical fitting skills. Additional experience with CNC and XYZ machines would be advantageous, but not essential, as training will be provided. The ability to use CAD/Solidworks would also be an advantage.
The candidate will need to demonstrate leadership skills, work with processes and procedures, deal with customers, and be a team player. The role requires a hands-on approach combined with a can-do attitude.
Key Responsibilities
1. Manufacture and repair of parts using manual milling and turning.
2. Manufacture of parts on CNC machines (advantage but not essential).
3. Work overtime subject to workload, meeting emergency demand.
4. Be available for call-outs and emergency work (on a rota basis).
5. Mainly workshop-based with occasional work on-site.
6. Training in new techniques/skill sets as required.
7. Work on own initiative to complete machining repairs.
8. Knowledge of mechanical fitting to support the machined repairs.
9. Supervise the team and ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and processes.
10. Develop fellow employees through leadership skills.
11. Plan workflow to meet customer requirements.
12. Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
13. Perform any other duties within capabilities as directed by the Workshop Manager.
Skills and Qualifications
1. Experience within their industry or similar.
2. Proven experience in an engineering/manufacturing background.
3. Willingness to work outside of normal working hours.
4. Knowledge of safety protocols and PPE.
5. Ability to use precision measuring instruments.
6. Experience using a variety of materials e.g., steel, aluminium, and plastic.
7. Good literacy and maths skills.
8. Attention to detail with good communication skills.
