We are currently welcoming applications from self-employed, peripatetic singing teachers to join the vibrant Music Faculty at Shrewsbury High School. As a Peripatetic Teacher, you will be responsible for teaching individual pupils of all abilities across the Junior and Senior School age range, and you will be engaged where possible to contribute further to music at the school through performing and/or partnership projects. With a personable and positive manner, you will share knowledge of music & performing, preferably with the ability to inspire through your own talent and will be interested in developing the role within the wider Music Department.
Applicants should be enthusiastic and confident and able to support and inspire children to foster their eagerness for learning singing.
You will work closely with the Director of Music to gain a good understanding of the needs of the pupils and the musical teaching system in the School.
The post holder will be engaged on a self-employed basis and candidates will ideally be on the DBS Update Service. You will be required to invoice directly to the parents of the pupils you teach. The GDST or the School cannot act as agent for either you or the parent and will have no involvement in either invoicing or payment. You remain free to set your own charging rate and should notify the School in writing at least one term in advance of the rate you will charge for the following term.
About the School
Shrewsbury High School has been educating girls in the heart of Shrewsbury since 1885; our school is literally built into the historic Town Walls. We welcome students aged 4-18 and we were created to put girls first, always. As leaders in educating girls, we offer exceptional teaching, tailored to the way girls learn. We encourage them to experiment, have a go and be brave. This is aided by small class sizes, expert pastoral care, collaboration, and teamwork. In our recent ISI Inspection Report (Nov 2022) we have been recognised as Excellent in all areas.
Shrewsbury High School is part of the Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST), the UK’s leading family of independent girls’ schools. We are the only GDST school in the local area and as such we are able to bring all the advantages of this powerful network to our girls, including an alumnae network in excess of 70,000 members ready to support and mentor our students and staff. Being part of the GDST family of schools gives our staff the chance to share resources and innovative teaching opportunities, as well as a professional development framework to help you fulfil your ambitions. A culture of collaboration in the pursuit of excellence predominates and not only does this benefit our school, but also our staff who have access to the central expertise of the Trust’s Innovation and Learning team, which exists to support our teachers and schools in developing and delivering an outstanding education for all our pupils.
