Hays is currently working with a well-established M&E Consultancy based in Nottinghamshire, who are actively looking for an interim Mechanical Design Engineer. This firm has seen substantial growth across the fairly new business MEP arm, partnered with a healthy pipeline of work, they are looking to build and develop a quality design team internally moving forward. This is a great interim opportunity to potentially go permanently for candidates who are interested.
Your new role
The initial projects include residential (student accommodation, housing) and offices. You will be responsible for:
1. Prepare technical specifications and drawings using industry-standard software
2. Carry out design from RIBA Stage 2 to construction
3. Undertaking design calculation
4. Managing multiple projects and prioritising workload to meet all assigned deadlines
5. Meeting with clients
6. Design mechanical installations to meet British Standards
7. Developing design proposals at sketch, detailed design and production stages
8. Preparing tender documentation and reports
9. Demonstrate a passion for mechanical design engineering and a willingness to learn
10. Support senior members of staff in managing client and design team relationships
What you'll need to succeed
1. Degree qualified, or suitable equivalent qualification, in Building Services Engineering or related subjects
2. Minimum 3 years’ experience within a building services design role
3. Good level of computer literacy in a range of mechanical digital tools: Hevp, NBS, AutoCAD, Revit and Microsoft packages
4. Experience working in a design consultancy and/or experience of working for a contractor
5. Have detailed knowledge of appropriate technical standards
6. Able to take charge of project deliverables, make decisions, act on your own initiative and operate proactively
7. Good report writing skills
8. Strong work ethic
9. Flexibility to adapt to changes in projects between design and engineering management.
