1. To assist the Health and Safety Manager in formulating and implementing a strategy to deliver Health and Safety systems and policies. To assist in the production of the annual Health and Safety Plan.
2. To audit and review current policies and procedure, to ensure compliance with current requirements and recommend changes as a result of change to legislation and other circumstances.
3. To draft new policy documents and guidance notes as required and directed.
4. To identify hazards and risks within the organisation and to recommend and implement agreed control measures for improvement.
5. To design and implement effective risk management systems and carry out audits/inspections at all locations.
6. In conjunction with the Training Officer and Health & Safety Manager, identify Health & Safety training needs and design and deliver effective and agreed training programmes for personnel at all levels.
7. To deliver IOSH and other Health & Safety training to the agreed programme, oversee the tutorial team and assess the practical examinations.
8. To provide performance information to the appropriate forums as and when required.
9. To liaise with the Occupational Health Unit regarding matters of joint interest.
10. To ensure all accidents are investigated; prepare reports and recommend preventative measures as directed by the Head of Health & Safety.
11. To advise all interested parties of potential claims and liaise with insurers regarding the acquisition of any required additional information.
12. To liaise with the HSE and other external bodies in the absences of the Health & Safety Manager.
13. To attend internal / external committees / meetings in the absence of the Health & Safety Manger.
14. To deputise for to the Health & Safety Manager in their absence.
15. To promote Health and Safety within the organisation as an accident prevention tool and liaise with Section Heads to ensure safe working practices are carried out at all times.
16. To fully participate in SYFR’s Performance Development Review process according to the responsibilities of the role.
17. To practice and promote SYFR’s Equality and Diversity and Health and Safety Policies and to conduct oneself in a manner that is consistent with SYFR’s core values at all times.
18. To ensure that risk is managed effectively within the section in accordance with corporate strategies and plans.
19. To attend as required any training courses that will contribute to the effective performance of the post holder.
20. To carry out such other duties within the department as from time to time may be required, which are commensurate with the grading of this post.
21. To be responsible for the accurate and appropriate processing of data, ensuring compliance with organisational policies and procedures (i.e. data protection).
