We are looking to recruit a highly motivated, capable, enthusiastic nurse to join our Respiratory team. We are a 32 bedded ward that prides ourselves on the acute services we provide such as High flow nasal oxygen therapy and Non-Invasive Ventilation service we have implemented and now deliver. This gives a sound base for educational learning for students/nurse associates alike, and alongside the catering for individuals with chronic chest conditions, as well as providing end of life care for palliative patients. Ward 3 is also the cohort ward for patients with tracheostomies that require hospitalisation.
Our respiratory team is working to expand our services and provide exciting new opportunities with a respiratory enhanced care unit and future specialist nurse roles. The post holder will also have chance to expand their learning further with Non invasive ventilation and respiratory failure teaching. Our work is intense and acute with specialist skills needed alongside sound general clinical skills.
We pride ourselves on maintaining extremely high standards of care, and we actively audit and peer review our work to identify areas for improvement and to show areas of excellence. The post holder must have passion, drive, flexibility and able to communicate effectively. Respiratory knowledge is desirable for this post, but not essential as full training may be given.
Main duties of the job
An experienced health care professional competent in all aspects of care planning, who is able to carry out a wide range of clinical skills, including area(s) of specialist clinical expertise and advice within the team e.g. infection control, by working collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families. The post holder will also take an active part in the leadership, education, development and supervision of the team.
Job responsibilities
1. Perform comprehensive assessment of patient nursing needs, plan, implement and evaluate care according to changing health care needs, including providing clinical expertise, advice and guidance in a specialist area of clinical practice to improve the overall care provided by the team.
2. Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team/agencies to ensure that patient needs are met.
3. Involve patients, relatives/carers in the delivery of care, providing reassurance and support to assist their understanding and co-operation.
4. Prepare the clinical area for safe practice by ensuring that cleanliness is maintained, materials and equipment are ready for use, including clearing away afterwards.
5. Provide escort and transfer for patients as directed by the multidisciplinary team.
6. Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.
7. Collect, collate, and report information, maintaining accurate patient records/documentation.
Person Specification
Knowledge
* Evidence of knowledge within field.
* Detailed knowledge of professional accountability and NHS issues.
Experience
* Years of experience.
* Previous Acute Medicine Experience.
Communication Skills
* Ability to respond to different needs of patients in different settings.
* Evidence of contribution to meetings/discussions outside of team.

Salary: £29,970 to £36,483 a year per annum pro rata.
