Job Description
Lead Mechanical Design Engineer - Near Edinburgh (Hybrid) - 60-70K plus bonus
*Hybrid - 2/3 Days in office per week - Very commutable from Edinburgh, West Lothian, Fife, Falkirk, Stirling, and surrounding*
Lorien’s long-standing client, an award-winning Scottish success story, is looking to expand their team on the back of a brand-new recruitment drive and a boom in business demand, this time in the shape of a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer.
You’ll be heading up a squad putting their skills to good use; contributing towards the success of a firm who have already improved the lives of millions around the globe. It’s a great time to join, too, as they’re in the middle of significant internal investment in their products and staff.
In return, you’ll join a supportive firm very well versed in keeping their staff happy, a generous bonus scheme and regular salary reviews, hybrid working and flexible hours, plenty of opportunities to progress professionally and technically, and a range of other benefits designed with employees in mind.
You’ll take the reins across the areas below, and enjoy working for an organisation giving something back to the world while upskilling yourself and tackling something new each week:
* Lead a dedicated Mechanical Design team, remaining technically hands-on as you offer strategic and technical leadership to less senior staff and drive them forward
* Lead the full cycle for the design and realisation of new systems architecture from requirements phases and concept gen through to development / verification / testing / release
* Put your expertise to good use as you help to improve the product portfolio as well as the wider function while working at the helm
* Help to ensure best practice, smooth delivery and effectiveness of mechanical designs delivered
* Ensure plans are relayed to other relevant departments to ensure everyone is on the same page and working towards the same goals
And here’s what they’d like you to bring to the table:
* Mechanical Design background ideally in an established R&D style setting and with precision/fine mechanics
* 3D CAD modelling skills and previous dealing with Solidworks (or CREO / similar and willing to cross train over)
* Hands-on background covering design/build/verification as well as strong understanding of “Design For…” methodologies
* Ideally some team leadership skills and a proven track record managing/driving others, or the willingness to step up and take the reins in this way while remaining technically hands-on
* Strong grasp of manufacturing processes and relevant regulations
* Willingness to investigate new tech and skills, and knowledge-share with a very collaborative and close-knit technical team
As well as a generous starting salary, you'll enjoy a great bonus scheme, regular salary reviews, hybrid working and flexible hours, opportunities to progress professionally and technically, and a range of other benefits.
