Principal Accountabilities:
* Carry out clinical nursing duties throughout the Small Animal Hospital, under the direction of the head nurses, assistant nursing manager, and nursing manager.
* Dispensing and administration (under the direct supervision of a veterinary surgeon) medication to animals, maintaining accurate stock control and following protocols relating to drug holding, dispensing, handling, and giving clear and accurate instructions to clients when dispensing medication.
* Maintaining accurate patient records regarding all clinical notes, treatment, diagnoses, client communication, and client/patient information.
* Ensuring that all procedures and consumables are accurately invoiced on patients' accounts for the duration of stay.
* Participating in clinical governance activities for the hospital, including significant event reporting, M&M discussions, clinical audit, evidence-based medicine, and reflective learning.
* Keep up to date with CPD in line with RCVS guidelines.
* Teaching of veterinary and veterinary nursing undergraduates during clinical rotations. Acting as a clinical coach to veterinary nursing undergraduates (training can be completed once started if not already obtained).
* Communication with owners regarding in-patients as appropriate, to include liaison with the nursing team and arranging owner visits.
* Support with routine discharge appointments, to include instructions/advice on likely side effects of medications, clinical responses, and management of patients.
* Ensure stock levels of equipment and consumables are monitored, restock as necessary.
* Assessment and supervision of BVSc and VNPA undergraduates during clinical rotations. To include undertaking the role of Clinical Coach and professional mentor.
* Provision of CPD for internal and external nurses, to include webinars and presentations.
* Maintaining a good working relationship with all team members.
* Communicating in an effective and pleasant manner with clients and colleagues.
* Carry out all other reasonable duties as requested by the line manager.
* Ensuring standard operating protocols (SOP's) for the area are available, relevant, and up to date.
* Proactively identify and act upon opportunities for business improvement. Openly identify and discuss problems to implement and sustain improvements that increase the value we deliver to our clients, employees, and students.
