The post holder will work as part of a specialist CAMHS team and support clinical practitioners, as well as children and young people who are referred to the service. The role is part of the Single Point of Access (SPOA) service.
The post holder will work flexibly, continue to develop and undertake a varied range of delegated tasks and will report to a registered professional. It is anticipated this role will continue to develop through the acquisition of further skills, knowledge and competencies to be determined by South Manchester CAMHS.
Main duties of the job
1. To undertake duties delegated by suitably regulated healthcare professionals, enabling the post holder to make a limited assessment of patient need and act upon their assessment.
2. To work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team to meet the needs of children, young people and parents/carers by providing quality evidence-based care, following explicit protocols, policy and procedures.
3. To contribute to and undertake triage of new referrals to the service, including assessment of risk and identification of safeguarding concerns.
4. To respond to queries into the service from service users and other professionals with support from senior clinical staff as appropriate.
5. To communicate effectively with young people, their families and carers, other professionals and agencies while maintaining a high degree of professionalism.
6. To undertake assessments of the mental health of young people including risk assessment and identification of safeguarding concerns, and to contribute to care planning and safety planning.
7. To provide a high quality of care to young people and their parents/carers within the agreed scope and competency and to seek further advice and support from professionally registered staff where necessary.
8. To participate in the training and development of others.
9. To undertake ongoing supervision of the routine work of support workers and other staff delegated by their supervisor.

Education/Qualification
* Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care OR NVQ 2 in health-related area (or equivalent) AND GCSE Maths and English Grade 4 or above (or equivalent)
* NVQ 3 in health-related area or equivalent
Knowledge
* Understanding of the role of an Assistant Practitioner in a single point of access environment
* Understanding and adherence to boundaries of practice
* Knowledge of issues that affect the mental health and emotional wellbeing of children and young people
