We’re looking for a tax expert to support our Tax Advisory teams on a variety of project and transaction work
Supporting experienced tax professionals, you’ll progress a number of HMRC enquiries in an efficient and commercial manner using your tax technical knowledge to add value
Recognised as a subject matter expert, you’ll provide tax advice on a range of products and transactions, including tax technical advice, documentation reviews and ensuring ongoing compliance with our Tax Strategy
We’re offering this role for a period of six months
What you'll do
We’ll look to you to provide tax advice across the organisation, supporting a number of business lines with a focus on the Commercial & Institutional (C&I) franchise. You’ll be responsible for project managing a number of high profile HMRC enquiries, ensuring the timely delivery of information and constructive internal and external engagement. You’ll also be responsible for reviewing transactions and new products across the C&I franchise, often to tight transaction deadlines.
Working with senior colleagues you’ll assess tax risk, including reputational risk, arising from a range of projects and business areas, and you’ll streamline review procedures to maximise the use of department resources.
As well as this, you’ll:
Deliver clear, timely, and accurate tax advice to business areas and projects through a combination of direct tax technical input and reviews
Make sure business lines operate within an acceptable tax reputational risk framework and within the Code of Practice on Taxation for Banks
Represent the organisation in discussions with key external parties including audit teams, HMRC, external advisers, and key industry bodies
Facilitate efficient interaction between the tax team and colleagues within the business and finance community
The skills you'll need
We’re looking for someone with a professional accountancy or tax qualification, strong business acumen, and commercial and risk awareness. Along with significant post-qualification tax experience in either practice or industry, you’ll have strong UK tax knowledge and experience of dealing with HMRC.
You’ll also need:
Project management and implementation skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent deadlines
Proven, up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge of UK direct tax legislation and good knowledge of relevant international tax, indirect tax, operational taxes, and product specific tax issues
Strong communication and people management skills
The ability to influence at a senior level
