We are seeking to recruit a Band 6 midwife who is highly motivated, ambitious, kind and enthusiastic with an interest in bereavement, to join our bereavement team for a fixed term period to cover maternity leave. They should be committed to providing sensitive holistic care to parents and their families following the loss of a baby during pregnancy or soon after a baby has been born.
As a trust, we care for approximately 6000 births every year and cover a very diverse population. This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 midwife, who is passionate about making a difference to gain experience in bereavement care and work with an existing bereavement team of highly skilled midwives in maternity.
We want to help you develop and enhance your skills and maximize your potential in all aspects of midwifery. We actively encourage staff development and have a fantastic clinical education team to provide our in-house, multidisciplinary professional development training. We have excellent links with local universities for post-registration development.
The midwife who will join the bereavement team will have the opportunity to develop their skills in bereavement care and also provide continuity of care into the next pregnancy.

Main duties of the job
Our Maternity Birthing Units consist of our 6 bed Midwifery Led Unit, 12 Labour and Birth Rooms (including one fixed birth pool room) within the Consultant led Obstetric unit, in addition to Enhanced Maternal Care beds, Obstetric Theatres, Recovery areas, Bereavement Suite and Maternity Triage.
As a bereavement midwife, you will provide care to mothers and their families while they are an inpatient and following discharge. This will include the delivery care to women and their families during the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal period. You will act as an advocate for women and their families, ensuring that trust values and beliefs are upheld.
As the bereavement midwife, you will have a fundamental role in the delivery of high standards of bereavement and midwifery care, liaising with the MDT and other internal and external teams such as CAREs officers, Mortuary staff and Registrars. You will assist in the running of follow-up clinics and provide advice and guidance in relation to practicalities following the loss of a baby. You will also provide support in a subsequent pregnancy.

Job responsibilities
* Manage a caseload of bereaved patients
* Provide support and guidance to families experiencing a child-bearing loss
* Provide support and guidance to other staff caring for bereaved families
* Provide support and guidance to families in subsequent pregnancies
* Complete required national reporting to MBRRACE and CDOP
* Maintain and update relevant databases
* Provide support during pregnancy loss clinic
* Liaise with relevant teams within the trust, including CAREs officers, mortuary staff, hospital chaplains.
* Liaise with relevant teams outside of the trust, including funeral directors and registrars
* Make appropriate referrals to ensure ongoing support for families
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Midwife on part 2 of the NMC professional register
* Degree/diploma relevant to specialty
* NIPE Qualification
Experience
* Post registration in continuous clinical practice
* Successfully completed a preceptorship programme
* Evidence of working in all areas of midwifery
* Evidence of well-documented and up-to-date CPD portfolio
* Ability to work autonomously within professional and trust guidelines
