Advanced Nurse Practitioner - Orthogeriatrics
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent Band 8a Advanced Nurse Practitioner to join our small Orthogeriatric team at Glangwili General Hospital.
The successful candidate will manage an independent caseload of inpatients who have sustained fragility fractures including hip fractures. The post holder will work alongside the Orthogeriatrician providing holistic care of this group of patients, including supporting the management of bone health.
The post holder will support the management of the Hip Fracture Database, including reviewing and validating data, presenting data, and leading quality improvement work.
The post holder is identified as a clinical expert and is required to have a high clinical profile ensuring the provision of effective and efficient care. At this level, the post holder is expected to work as a highly skilled senior practitioner and to have expert knowledge.
The post holder will be expected to exercise a high degree of personal professional autonomy and make critical judgments to satisfy the expectations and demands of the role. The post holder will be guided by health, organisational or broad occupational policies, but in most situations, the post holder will need to establish the way in which these should be interpreted and advise relevant stakeholders accordingly. The post holder will be expected to work at an advanced clinical level within their level of competence and to work flexibly as part of the team.
Main duties of the job
The primary focus of the role is to work as an advanced, autonomous practitioner providing patient-centred clinical care, encompassing the skills of assessment, examination, diagnosis, and treatment of patients. The Advanced Practitioner will work across the 4 pillars of practice - Leadership & Management, Clinical, Education, Research and Development, as outlined in the Framework for Advanced Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professional Practice in Wales 2010 (FANMAHPPW). The post is intended to provide improved outcomes for patients by improving timeliness and consistency of care.
The post holder will:
* Explore and analyse evidence, cases and situations in clinical practice, enabling a high level of judgement and decision-making.
* Deliver advanced practice which is evidence-based within service.
* Assess, diagnose, treat/manage, evaluate, refer and discharge.
* Assess and manage risk.
* Carry out non-medical prescribing in line with legislation.
* Involve Patient/service user/Public involvement in development of service and role.
* Manage complexity, use critical thinking and analytical skills to underpin sound judgement, and ethical decision-making.
* Provide training, presentations and information to a range of groups comprising staff, senior staff and colleagues from partner organisations.
* Develop policies, protocols and guidelines using sound evidence base.

Qualifications and Knowledge
* Registered Health Care Professional (eg HCPC/NMC)
* Relevant Masters Degree/180 credits at level 7 (Masters) in relevant area
* Non-Medical Prescriber, or willingness to commit to undertake in line with future service development
* Evidence of higher level of practice development within specialist area
Language Skills
