Hingham Surgery is looking for an experienced healthcare assistant (HCA) to join the practice in this vital patient-facing role, with both clinical and administrative responsibilities. The position is offered on a part-time basis, for 18 hours per week, working Monday to Wednesday. Working alongside our existing HCAs and practice nurses, t he healthcare assistant will be able to apply their clinical skills and knowledge to carry out high quality practice within designated clinical areas such as: Blood pressure checks. Vaccinations. ECG recording. Phlebotomy. Managing INRs. Chaperoning duties. Updating patient health records. Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses. Sterilising, cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment. Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording. Surgery equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation. Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms. Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions. Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients’ health and well-being. Giving advice on healthy living. About the Candidate The healthcare assistant role within general practice can be very different to the role within other settings and as such applications from those with previous primary care experience would be desirable. We are looking for a proactive and well organised person, ideally with previous experience as a healthcare assistant or as a phlebotomist in general practice. You will have the following skills and qualifications: Successful completion of the Care Certificate, or willingness to undertake, as indicated by the CQC. A qualification in phlebotomy/venepuncture. Familiarity with SystmOne would be an advantage. Strong clinical skills. Compassionate attitude towards patient care. Confidence and competence in all HCA duties required for the post. Excellent patient-facing communication and interpersonal skills. Consistently confidential manner, as well as a compassionate and respectful approach, placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues.
