Job Title: Locum Consultant Dermatologist
Duration: 6 months with extension available

Role Summary:
The Locum Consultant Dermatologist will provide expert dermatological care to patients, managing outpatient clinics, conducting diagnostic procedures, and delivering both acute and chronic dermatology treatments. This role includes patient consultations, supervision of junior medical staff, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. The locum position may also involve on-call duties and the teaching of medical students or junior doctors.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties:
* Diagnose and manage a wide range of dermatological conditions including inflammatory, infectious, autoimmune, and neoplastic skin diseases.
* Conduct outpatient dermatology clinics, reviewing new and follow-up patients.
* Perform diagnostic tests (e.g., skin biopsies, dermoscopy) and treatment procedures (e.g., cryotherapy, excisions).
* Develop and implement treatment plans, ensuring high-quality care and patient satisfaction.
* Provide expert advice for dermatology cases referred from other specialties.
* Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case discussions, and care planning.
Teaching and Supervision:
* Supervise and support junior doctors, specialty registrars, and other healthcare professionals in the dermatology department.
* Deliver educational sessions for medical students and healthcare professionals.
* Provide guidance on dermatology case management to colleagues.
On-Call Duties:
* Participate in the dermatology on-call rota if required, providing emergency dermatological consultations.
* Manage urgent dermatology cases and ensure timely patient care in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
Quality and Governance:
* Ensure all clinical activities comply with hospital policies, NHS guidelines (if applicable), and professional standards.
* Contribute to clinical audits, quality improvement projects, and service evaluations.
* Maintain up-to-date and accurate patient records in compliance with data protection laws and regulations.
Research and Development (Optional):
* Engage in research projects and clinical trials if desired.
* Contribute to ongoing departmental research or initiate dermatological studies.
Key Requirements:
* Qualifications:
* Full registration with the GMC
* Specialist registration or Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in dermatology.
* Fellowship or membership of a recognized dermatology society or college is advantageous (e.g., Royal College of Physicians).
Experience:
* Minimum of 2 years of experience working as a consultant dermatologist or senior specialist in dermatology.
* Demonstrated expertise in diagnosing and treating a wide variety of dermatological conditions.
* Experience in performing dermatological procedures (e.g., excisions, biopsies, laser treatments) is essential.
Skills and Competencies:
* Excellent clinical skills with a strong knowledge of dermatology.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain conditions and treatments clearly to patients.
* Strong organizational and time-management skills.

* Flexibility and adaptability to cover various clinics and duties on a locum basis.
* Availability to start at short notice, depending on the needs of the department.
* Right to work in the country of employment and any required clearances (e.g., DBS check in the UK).
