Purpose of the Role
Our Structural Engineers Section is under review, and we require a senior structural engineer to lead the Building Control function in relation to the structural assessment of Building Regulation applications and the support of other parts of the developing Broste River Group.
The role would involve developing the service and may involve design work, managing a range of interesting projects, from small domestic extensions to complex major commercial developments, and liaising with clients, design teams, architects, and builders.
Key responsibilities:
* Checking plans, details and structural calculations submitted for Building Regulation approval
* Working with client and design teams to provide pre-emptive advice
* Carrying out on-site technical assessments over large geographical area
* Offering guidance to builders as well as undertaking forensic investigations
* Build and sustain a customer base
* Supporting our registered building inspectors from senior level to graduate surveyors as they embark on their careers
* Providing advice and assistance where necessary to assist Surveyors carrying out the “dangerous structures” responsibility of the company.

Person Specification
This section presents the knowledge, skills, experience, personal qualities, and qualifications that are considered essential for a person being deployed to this role.
* We are looking for a senior structural engineer, who is a Chartered Professional (M I Struct E), you should bring solid construction industry experience, knowledge of British Standards and Eurocodes that relate to requirements A1, A2 and A3 of the Building Regulations and be able to make pragmatic decisions.
* We are seeking a Structural Engineer with extensive and demonstrable design and assessment ability.
* You will have a customer-focused approach, possessing excellent communication skills, both written and verbal are essential for providing a customer focused approach.
* You should have extensive and demonstrable structural experience and be able to work unsupervised, in line with established policies and procedures, but with the experience to know when to seek expert help.
