Volunteer Play Worker
(Voluntary/ Unpaid)
Since 1977, Independent Options has been working to empower people with disabilities, enabling them to take control of their lives, achieve their aspirations, and enjoy life to the full.
We offer a range of highly personalised support services for children and adults who have a wide range of disabilities, including learning disabilities, autism, physical disabilities, acquired brain injuries, and mental health needs.
For children aged 0 to 10 years old, we have an indoor play room, accessible computers, and a large outside play area. We organise themed activities for the children in various groups and clubs, including:
1. Pre-school Toddler Groups
2. Singing and Signing
3. After School Clubs
4. School Holiday Groups
5. Saturday Clubs
For parents and carers, we provide a quiet lounge near the play room where they can relax, chat with others, or enjoy a few moments to themselves. We also organise informal parent support groups, training courses, and information-sharing events.
This volunteer role is within our play groups for children aged 0 to 10 years old who have a wide range of learning and physical disabilities, along with their siblings and families.
The role involves providing help before, during, and after the groups. During the group, the main task will be to interact with the families to provide a fun and safe play environment.
Experience working with individuals with disabilities and children aged 0–10 is desirable but not essential.
All volunteer candidates must supply two references (character references are acceptable) and pass a DBS check before beginning their volunteering with us. Unfortunately, we cannot accept applications from individuals under 18 years old.
