All Aboard Northern! – Find your Platform with a Northern Rail Engineering Apprenticeship!
Have you ever thought about a rewarding career in rail engineering? We’re looking for dedicated people to join us as Rail Engineering Apprentices! This is an incredible opportunity to be part of a team that keeps our trains running smoothly and safely, connecting communities across the North.
Imagine Yourself:
* Learning and Growing: Across our three-year apprenticeship program, you’ll earn while you learn; gaining essential skills in rail engineering. You’ll work towards a Level 3 qualification while getting hands-on experience at our TrainCare Centres.
* Working as Part of a Team: You’ll collaborate with experienced engineers and trainers who are committed to helping you succeed. Together, you’ll tackle engineering challenges and ensure our trains are always ready for service.
* Solving Real Problems: You’ll learn to figure out how things work and will end up loving the challenges. You’ll apply your problem-solving skills to maintain and improve our fleet.
* Prioritising Safety: Safety is our top priority. You’ll begin to adapt your thinking to follow industry protocols and ensure all maintenance is carried out in a safe manner; contributing to a secure working environment for everyone.
Your Journey Over Three Years:
* Year One: You’ll live and study at Myerscough College in Preston (Accommodation, Food and Rail travel included), focusing on your Level 2 Performance in Engineering and Level 3 Diploma in Rail Engineering. While at college, you’ll learn the fundamentals in a classroom and workshop setting and gain practical experience at your assigned TrainCare Centre during breaks.
* Year Two: You’ll continue working alongside your dedicated team at the TrainCare Centre, applying what you've learned in a hands-on environment. This year includes two fortnightly visits to the National Training Academy for Rail (NTAR) in Northampton, where you’ll complete specialist units towards your Level 3 Diploma.
* Year Three: Building on your knowledge and experience, you’ll create a portfolio of evidence to complete your Level 3 qualification and prepare for your End Point Assessment. You’ll continue to work closely with your team, deepening your practical skills in real-world scenarios.
Throughout your three years, you’ll be tested on your knowledge gained; all to make sure you’re on track with learning.
No engineering experience? No worries! While you don’t need prior experience, we’re looking for individuals who are hands-on and genuinely interested in engineering. Our comprehensive training will take you from classroom learning to hands-on experience, ensuring you’re well-prepared for a career in the railway. With ongoing support from our expert teams, you’ll have everything you need to succeed.
Are You:
* Dedicated and Committed? Ready to fully engage in our comprehensive training program and put in the hard work needed to excel? Your commitment will set you up for success!
* Curious and Eager to Learn? If you have a strong interest in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and a passion for understanding how systems operate, you’ll thrive in this role.
* A Team Player? You’ll be working alongside colleagues who share your enthusiasm. Your ability to communicate effectively and collaborate will make a big difference in our operations.
* Resilient and Adaptable? We operate 24/7, and you’ll need to stay calm and focused under pressure. Your ability to prioritise tasks will help keep everything on track.
