We are a rural GP practice with a patient list size of 6,000 and are looking for someone to join our small and friendly team to help with the clinical coding requirements of the Practice.
Position is advertised as a 6 month fixed term contract which will be reviewed towards expiry to assess the future requirements which may include extending the term or converting to a permanent position.
Main duties of the job
Working alongside our existing admin team, you will be responsible for accurately clinically coding data onto patients' records within EMIS, our Practice clinical system.
About us
We are a small friendly team totalling 21 staff with a "family style" ethos. We have 3 part-time GPs working alongside other clinicians including Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Paramedic, Practice Nurses, and Healthcare Assistants. We also have an on-site dispensary as well as admin and reception staff.

Job summary: To be responsible for the read coding of relevant information into patients' electronic healthcare records on the clinical system, adhering to the Correspondence Management Policy.
In addition, the post holder will support the multi-disciplinary team, providing administrative support as required, in line with the needs of the organisation.

Primary key responsibilities
The following are the core responsibilities of the Clinical Coder. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks.
1. Accurately clinically coding data on the clinical system into the patient record.
2. Identifying relevant clinical information documented in patient correspondence, coding appropriately and completing any detailed action.
3. Inputting and extracting data as required to support practice reports.
4. Filing and storing records as required.
5. Photocopying documentation as required.
6. Actioning incoming correspondence, emails, and mail in a timely manner.
7. Scanning patient-related documentation and attaching scanned documents to patients' healthcare records.
8. Inputting data into patients' healthcare records as necessary.
9. Potentially answering incoming telephone calls, transferring calls, or dealing with the caller's request appropriately.
10. Supporting all clinical staff with general administrative tasks as requested.
Secondary responsibilities
In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Clinical Coder may be requested to:
1. Review and update the practice coding policy as required (in conjunction with the Practice Manager).

Experience
* Must have a working knowledge of EMIS and SNOMED coding.
