Job Title: Special Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA)
Location: SP6, Fordingbridge
Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to support a student with special educational needs in a nursery setting. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, parents, and other professionals to provide tailored support, ensuring that students with learning difficulties, disabilities, or behavioral challenges receive the assistance they need to thrive.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide one-on-one support to a student with special educational needs.
2. Assist the teacher in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and adapting learning materials.
3. Support students with emotional, social, and behavioral needs to ensure a positive learning experience.
4. Help the student with physical disabilities or sensory impairments with mobility, communication, and daily activities.
5. Use strategies and assistive technology to aid learning and development.
6. Encourage and promote independence, self-confidence, and positive behavior.
7. Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other staff to support the students’ progress.
8. Provide feedback to teachers and parents regarding students’ progress and challenges.
9. Assist with classroom management and creating an inclusive learning environment.
10. Support students during activities such as PE, school trips, and break times.
11. Ensure students' safety and well-being at all times.
Requirements:
1. Previous experience working as a Special Needs Teaching Assistant or in a similar role is preferred.
2. Understanding of different special educational needs, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and speech/language difficulties.
3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
4. Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude towards supporting children with diverse needs.
5. Ability to work collaboratively in a team and follow instructions from teachers and SEN coordinators.
6. A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
7. Enhanced DBS check which is on the update service. (or willingness to obtain one).
8. Experience with Makaton, PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System), or other communication aids.
9. Training in behavior management techniques (e.g., Team Teach, positive reinforcement strategies).
