The Role: The Lead Soft Tissue Therapist will deliver world-class soft tissue therapy services to the Men’s First Team, playing a pivotal role in injury prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation. Reporting directly to and working collaboratively with the Head of Physiotherapy, as well as the wider Physiotherapists, Sports Physicians, Osteopaths, Sports Scientists, and Coaching Staff. This role will ensure best-in-class player preparation, recovery, injury management, and performance support. Key Responsibilities Leadership and Management: Lead the soft tissue therapy department, ensuring best practices in player preparation, treatment, recovery, and injury prevention whilst taking direction from and feeding directly back to Head of Physiotherapy. Develop and implement individualised soft tissue therapy programs for players based on their positional demands, workload, and injury history. Work closely with the Head of Physiotherapy, Sports Science, and Strength & Conditioning teams to create integrated performance and recovery strategies. Mentor and manage a team of soft tissue therapists, ensuring consistency and high standards of treatment & management across the club. Soft Tissue Therapy & Performance Support: Provide a variety of manual therapy interventions, including deep tissue massage, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, stretch therapy and other soft tissue modalities to enhance recovery and performance. Utilise pre-match and post-match treatments to optimise players' physical readiness and recovery. Assist in our multidiscipline team approach in injury rehabilitation by working closely alongside physiotherapists and medical staff to ensure a progressive return-to-play strategy. Monitor muscle tone, fatigue levels, and injury risk markers, adapting treatment plans as needed. Data & Evidence-Based Practice: Utilise performance data and monitoring tools (e.g., GPS, force plates, player loading and subjective feedback) to assess physical & psychological fatigue that will guide and direct individual treatment plans. Maintain detailed and regular treatment records, tracking individual player response and treatment effectiveness. Stay up to date with the latest research in soft tissue therapy, injury prevention, and recovery methods. Continuously stay up to date in terms of delivery and progression of a variety of soft tissue treatment therapies whilst directly shaping and guiding the CPD programme for the soft therapy team across the season. Matchday & Training Support: Be responsible for organising, assisting and planning match-day & tour medical travel equipment to ensure an excellent level of standards, efficiency and professionalism pre, during and post-match. Provide on-site soft tissue therapy during training sessions, matches, and pre-season camps. Travel with the first team for domestic and international fixtures, ensuring players receive optimal treatment throughout the season. The Person: Level 4 Diploma in Sports Massage and / or BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy (HCPC registered). Significant experience in elite sports, preferably in professional football. Expertise in soft tissue therapy techniques, including sports massage, myofascial release, tool-based therapy, stretch therapy, and trigger point therapy, with a strong knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics, and exercise physiology. Leadership experience, with a strong commitment to personal and team development & growth. Excellent communication skills to build strong relationships with players and staff. Proactive approach to injury prevention, rehabilitation, and player care. Ability to integrate into a multidisciplinary team and align with performance strategies. Fluency in multiple languages, preferably Spanish or Portuguese. Proactive, solution-oriented, and resilient under pressure.
