Mechanical Design Engineer An opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join the team at an exciting time. This role would suit an ambitious recent graduate looking for an opportunity to develop into a pivotal technical role, or an experienced engineer looking for the chance to shape, and lead, multiple packages of work. The role will suit an engineer with an excellent understanding of remote handling and machinery design, ideally gained in the nuclear industry, but those with similar experience will be considered. Robot/manipulator tooling design and development will be a key aspect of this role, as will the associated prototyping and testing of these tools. This is a unique role, requiring a versatile engineer with the desire to help build a world-class engineering capability within a respected supplier to the nuclear decommissioning sector. The Company CarrsMSM designs, manufactures, and services Remote Handling Manipulators used to assist in the handling and size-reduction of radioactive material. During the next 3 years, they plan to offer their customers some truly world-leading products with the aim of establishing themselves as a leader in the provision of Remote Handling solutions. This will include Remote Handling tooling, state-of-the-art manipulators, and upgrades to existing products. Location Unit 1, Spitfire Way, Hunts Rise, South Marston Park, Swindon SN3 4TX Hours of Work & Pay £30K/yr - £50K/yr, 37 hours per week Overtime available Key responsibilities (Essential) Demonstrable experience of mechanical system design with a focus on mechanism/machinery design Excellent knowledge of 3D CAD systems and associated administration (preferably Autodesk Inventor and Vault) Experienced in the application of GD&T to BS8888:2020 Excellent understanding of how to design for different manufacturing techniques, in particular, machining, welding and 3D prototyping. Able to perform mechanical calculations and/or analysis to support designs. Familiar with the use of New Product Development processes and concepting from a ‘clean sheet of paper’. Strong written/verbal communication skills. Must be able to clearly present technical topics to a range of audiences. Inquisitive by nature with excellent problem-solving ability – self starter Experience using Microsoft Office suite of products. Comfortable working under own initiative as well as within a multi-disciplined team Desirable: Experience in Remote Handling equipment design, or design for a radioactive environment Experience in producing engineering reports, procedures, and requirements. Knowledge of Project Management (application and process) Experienced user of Autodesk Inventor and Vault. Good ‘hands-on’ workshop skills using hand tools for prototyping. Experienced in the design of sheet metal components and assemblies. Willingness to represent the company at client sites, conferences and exhibitions. How will you be rewarded?
