This multi-disciplinary team of Nurse and Consultant Colposcopists provides services across our three hospital sites: Worcestershire Royal Hospital, Kidderminster Treatment Centre, and The Alexandra Hospital, Redditch.
We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and committed nurse with a passion for women's health issues. You will be supported professionally by the Gynaecology Clinical Specialist Nurse team to provide clinically excellent, compassionate care.
As the successful candidate, you will combine strong clinical credibility and the ability to inspire and influence change with patient outcomes, patient experiences, quality, safety, and risk management.
We require that the successful candidate registers with the BSCCP to begin training with successful accreditation at the end of the training period. You will be supported by experienced Nurse Colposcopists to achieve this. This is a band 6 role which will move to band 7 following successful completion of training. We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills to engage with patients and colleagues at all levels.
Main duties of the job
* To provide competent and skilled colposcopy procedures under the direct supervision of the lead Colposcopist.
* To work as a trainee nurse Colposcopist and not simultaneously as a registered nurse member of the clinic staff.
* The Trainee Nurse Colposcopist will sit within the Specialist Nurse rota and be available to attend colposcopy clinics across the county Monday to Friday to ensure training needs are met.
* As a member of the gynaecology directorate multidisciplinary team, ensure the assessment of care needs, development, and evaluation of programmes of care ensuring the delivery of high-quality care to patients.
* To liaise with all members of the multi-disciplinary team and coordinate all aspects of care in the best interests of the patient and family.
* To contribute to the continuing development of practice to all members of the directorate and supervise junior staff.
* To liaise closely with the Colposcopy lead trainer and any external mentors to ensure training needs are being met.

Job responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Clinical: With supervision, be responsible for a small caseload of clients for the assessment of care needs, including simple and complex clinical problems of the patient supported whilst training.
2. Responsible with supervision whilst training for the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care for the patient whose needs may be predictable or unpredictable and/or unstable and changing to ensure delivery of high standards of care.
3. To develop independent skills through supervised training, mentorship, and attendance at BSCCP accredited Basic colposcopy course.
4. To attend and complete the cytopathology/histopathology laboratory course for nurses as identified by the BSCCP.
5. To identify the requirements of the patient needs in elective/emergency situations and have the knowledge and skills to act accordingly.
6. To establish and maintain effective communication with individuals and groups about difficult or complex matters to overcome any problems in communication and to ensure that appropriate information is shared and patient needs are met.
7. To support and involve patients/clients/carers relatives and liaise with and coordinate other members of the multidisciplinary team in the planning and delivery of individualised care.
8. To be responsible for maintaining patients records within agreed standards to ensure the care management plan is communicated to patients and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
9. Adopt a positive approach to infection control, actively contributing to infection control policy and practice.
2. Management / Leadership
1. To contribute to the effective use of physical, financial, and human resources.
2. Lead, supervise, and provide training to new registered and non-registered staff, ensuring safe and effective care and that educational needs are met.
3. Contribute to discussions, debates, and influence change in practice underpinned by research that is evidence-based.
4. Act as a team leader where appropriate, ensuring effective teamwork and promoting healthy working relations with support from mentor/trainer.
5. Monitor and maintain own and others health, safety, and security.
6. To work within an ethical framework utilising the NMC code of conduct, defined policies, procedures, standards, and protocols of the department, organisation to promote safe and effective evidence-based practice and contribute to quality improvement.
3. Education and Continuing Professional Development
1. To maintain competency and produce evidence demonstrating continued professional development in the role of the Nurse Colposcopist.
2. To ensure that whilst training, BSCCP log book requirements are kept in a timely manner and the trainer is aware of ongoing training needs.
3. To be conversant and comply with trust policies and regulations, ensuring attendance at trust mandatory training sessions and those deemed necessary to role.
4. To support the personal and professional growth of new, registered, and non-registered staff, and learners in order to maximise their contribution to and quality of service delivery.
4. Quality / Research and Development
1. To contribute to the audit of colposcopy services and develop a working knowledge of reporting system and quality initiatives within the field of Colposcopy.
2. Demonstrate research awareness and ability to participate in and regularly support ongoing research in nursing/medical practice, clinical trials, medical research, and equipment testing.

1. To maintain a professional attitude at all times developing the role of the nurse in the best interest of the patient and profession in accordance with Nursing & Midwifery Council Standards and Guidelines.
2. To be aware of personal and professional development and to attend courses and conferences as recommended and approved by the Head of Maternity & Gynaecology.
6. Personnel
1. Participate in devising induction programmes for newly appointed staff.
2. To assist the Department manager in monitoring staff performance when requested.

* At least 3 years post-registration experience in gynaecology at Band 5 or above in a ward or outpatient setting
