An exciting opportunity has arisen to offer a permanent Band 5 Paediatric staff nurse role within Paediatric services. The paediatric service adopts a holistic approach to care and quality improvement. Patient safety and service improvement is at the forefront of our philosophy and we seek to recruit nurses who are motivated, promote high standards of patient care and work effectively as part of the multi-disciplinary team.
The paediatric children's nursing team consists of a range of staff nurses, advanced nurse practitioners and specialist nurses including diabetes, gastroenterology, neuro-disability, Epilepsy, Respiratory and continence. The post holder will work collaboratively with members of the multi-disciplinary team across community and secondary care settings utilising a family centred approach to care.
Within the paediatric services, we work closely together to ensure our babies, children, young people and families receive the highest standard of care. In times of escalation, you may be expected to work between all paediatric departments to ensure safety and quality. We have a team of paediatric matrons who will support and implement these changes as needed.
We are looking to recruit professional and enthusiastic Band 5 staff nurses. The right person for the job will share our enthusiasm and be open to change and providing high quality care.
Main duties of the job
This post will be for the following area:Children's & young person inpatient ward, The Paediatric Unit includes a 26-bedded inpatient ward (20 beds in summer). We work alongside CYPED where all paediatric patients are assessed & those requiring admission are transferred to the inpatient ward for continuing care.
You will also be expected to work shifts on the Children and Young Peoples Elective Investigation Unit (CYPEIU), the unit has elective surgery and patients who attend for endocrine investigations and medication infusions.

* Provide care closer to home to children/young people with acute & long-term conditions, including complex needs, life limiting conditions & palliative care.
* Holistically assess, plan, implement & review a plan of care for children/ young peoples nursing needs in partnership with them and their family.

* Triage/Initial assessment
* Immediate Life Support (ILS)

As well as access to a paediatric clinical educator who delivers a variety of training including minor illnesses, tracheostomy care, Paediatric life support, blood culture, venepuncture, catheterisation and cannulation as well as a number of other training opportunities.
