Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant (TA)

We are seeking a passionate and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a school in Halifax. The successful candidate will support students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning and development in a supportive, nurturing environment. This role is ideal for someone with experience in behaviour management and a commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of young people.
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs, both in and out of the classroom.
- Assist in implementing tailored behaviour support plans and interventions.
- Develop strong, trusting relationships with students, helping them manage their emotions and build resilience.
- Support academic learning, encouraging engagement, and progress.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and external professionals to ensure a holistic approach to each student's care and development.
- Assist in managing challenging behaviour using de-escalation techniques and positive reinforcement strategies.
- Previous experience working with students with SEMH or challenging behaviours.
- Strong understanding of behaviour management strategies.
- Patience, empathy, and excellent communication skills.
- Ability to stay calm and professional in challenging situations.
- A commitment to supporting the emotional well-being and educational development of young people.
- Relevant qualifications, such as an NVQ Level 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning or similar.
- Team Teach or other de-escalation training is advantageous.
- Experience working in a school or alternative provision setting.
