Consultant/Senior Consultant: Chemicals team, location Norwich, London or UK flexible
We are looking to add further experience to our Chemicals team to support our services particularly in the areas of REACH Authorisation for the UK and EU, chemical policy development, and chemical regulatory advice. We are seeking to increase the capacity of our team, build on our portfolio of existing contracts and expand into new areas of work. We are currently seeking individuals to join our Chemicals team at the Consultant/Senior Consultant level.

About the job
We are currently looking to expand our Chemicals team. Depending on previous experience and passion, you may work within our REACH Authorisation area for UK and EU REACH clients, where you will contribute towards the development of analysis of alternatives and/or socio-economic analysis. Or you may be placed within the Policy area, supporting policy development, analysis and impact assessments. Strong communication and organisational skills are essential.
You will be working with a multidisciplinary team, in a supportive and dynamic environment, working on multiple projects at the same time. You will be required to work independently, be a self-motivator, apply creative solutions and be ready to support peers and seniors across the organisation.
Requirements
* Typically 2 to 5+ years of experience (longer experience expected as Senior Consultant) within chemical regulatory consultancy, or similar experience.
* Knowledge of EU and UK chemicals regulation, such as REACH, CMRD, Food Contact Materials, Biocides Product Regulation, CLP, etc. Working knowledge of REACH advantageous.
* Demonstrable experience in gathering data from stakeholders, developing surveys and analysing data. Preferably also experience in running workshops, focus groups and semi-structured interviews.
* Project management, organisational skills and experience in scoping, planning, monitoring and leading relevant projects for public or private sector clients within budget and time constraints. Ability to manage subcontractors and projects with multidisciplinary teams.
* Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. The ability to communicate clearly effectively with a wide range of stakeholders is essential. Demonstrable experience in presenting technical subjects to a wide range of audiences and writing concisely in good English.
* Good critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills.
* The ability to deliver quality outcomes to tight timelines while working on multiple projects.
* Working knowledge around substitution principles, constraints (such as legal or technical function requirements), development of chemical safety reports, development of analysis of alternatives and/or socio-economic analysis in the context of REACH Authorisations or REACH Restrictions is highly desirable but not essential, depending on other relevant factors.
* Good understanding of the processes behind the development of public policy in e.g. EU or UK REACH, BPR, CLP, Chemical Strategy for Sustainability etc., how to assess the impacts of policy options, and the need for intervention by authorities.
* Contribution toward business development and mentoring more junior colleagues.
* Postgraduate qualification in chemistry, environmental science, economics, engineering or similar.
* Experience in writing tenders for the public and private sector is highly desirable.
* One or more EU languages besides English.
RPA operates a transparent pay policy and pay is based on relevant experience. The Consultant level starts at £28,500 and the Senior consultant level starts at £35,500.
