Data Centre Technician, Operations, IT, & Support Engineering
AWS Infrastructure Services (AIS) is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers.
A unique opportunity to join AWS as a Data Centre Technician. You will become the primary resolver for your support team and gain troubleshooting skills on one or more operating systems. You will be able to troubleshoot and solve all but the most complex infrastructure issues, escalating to the appropriate resolver groups when necessary. You will create and maintain documentation on technologies you support and convey Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) to junior staff.
24/7 shift coverage is required and may include 12-hour shifts, rotating shifts, 3, 4, or 5-day work weeks, and may change based on the needs of the business. Travel may be required up to 10% of the time.
Key Job Responsibilities
1. Problem Solving:
Maintain a high level of system reliability by prioritizing and resolving trouble tickets efficiently. Act as an escalation point and technical troubleshooter for all systems and problems. Deep dive into Linux server issues and XEN service virtualization troubleshooting.
2. Technical:
Troubleshoot technical issues on various platforms ranging from systems to power/mechanical. Remediate physical layer outages, both systems and network. Participate in Data Center power and cooling events.
3. Operations:
Meet 24x7 On-Call requirements and respond during shift rotations. Install and configure racks of hosts in line with internal SLAs. Triage and resolve trouble tickets for all devices in your region. Be the Data Center point of contact for all High Severity issues. Perform physical replacement of server and network device parts.
4. Project Management:
Participate in and deliver on a number of high-impact small to mid-scale projects. Participate in team meetings for metric analysis and project status updates.
5. Mentoring:
Share knowledge and help educate less technical staff on best practices related to all service owner issues.
Minimum Requirements
1. Associate’s degree or higher in an IT-related field, applicable certifications, or equivalent professional or military experience.
2. Networking experience with CCNA and/or Network+ certifications.
3. Experience with CISCO, Juniper, and other commodity networking devices.
4. Previous experience working in a Data Centre environment (racking & stacking gear, cable management).
5. Networking Protocols (OSI Model) knowledge.
6. Copper/Fibre Optic Testing/Cabling Standards knowledge.
7. Valid driver's license and own vehicle, with the ability to pass a driving record check.
